Excellent food, excellent service!
great relaxing watching the boats go by. good food and drink in a relaxing atmosphere
That night it was exactly what I was looking for; a seafood joint on the water. Our waitress was great, but the food came out slow. It didn't bother me because we were having a leasurely time with drinks and were enoying the band, Sides Gerard (I think). They were a fantastic soul band. My salad wasn't too exciting, but my shrimp were huge and super fresh. The flourless chocolate cake was phenomenal. My girlfriends really thought it was a great find.
We live on an island and can't find a restaurant on the water unless to travel to the far reaches of both ends of Long Island???? Terrible..... But the Oar Steak and Seafood Grill that we recently discovered is a fabulous mix of generations, noise, fun, scenery, and overall entertainment. We love it there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You get plenty to eat and the food was good. The service was ok. It is located at the water so the view is nice, but it won't be a nice quiet dinner. They have music outside and that seems to be what brings in the crowd. However if you make a reservation they will not give you outside seating. So if you want to be where the entertainment and view is don't make a reservation.
This was our second visit to the Oar and it didn't disappoint. Great wine, wonderful appetizers, very good seafood and grill selections. A great date-night spot, but also good for familites. We'll be back!
We dined indoors because of the cool spring weather, so the dining room was crowded and very noisy. Previously we have been seated outdoors....quite lovely setting at a marina. The food selection & quality was upscale, unfortunately the service was not. Definitely a *summer restaurant*, a hidden neighborhood gem, & worth another visit. Nice selection of small plates that would make a good afternoon snack as well.
The Maitre'D did not check Open Table and therefore, did not have our reservation. Also, even though we were there before there was any real crowd, we were seated next to a wall that was adjacent to the wall with the front door. Every time someone came in or out of the restaurant, the door slammed and shook the wall. When we complained to the Maitre'D, she was not very accomodating and told us that no one's ever complained about that before. Later in the night she came over and told us the door must be broekn because it is s... read more
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the Oar House. Our waitress was attentive and allowed us uninterupted time for romancing. There was an exceptionally good acoustic set of Neil Young, CSN, etc., perfect for enhancing the mood. The food was very good, my husband enjoyed his a bit more than I did, but I am picky!! Long Island wine was fabulous and we received a voucher for a complimentary wine tasting for 6 with the purchase of a bottle. I was thrilled with our evening and look forward to another night there when the weathe... read more
