We were told by the hospital staff who sent my father-in-law here that "Vasona Creek is very good". Scary to think what bad would be like. I do think the nursing staff here are generally pretty good, but probably very understaffed since they take a very long time to respond to patient call buttons. My father-in-law was very sick, and couldn't move his arms or legs. If you are mentally alert, are in for a short time for rehabilitation, you can survive. Know your medications and have the nurse tell you what medications are being given and check each medication that you are being given to make sure they are correct. Medications are not scanned and the nurses will document that all medications were given whether they were given or not. If a medication is incorrect or not available, have the nurse document it, ask to see the documentation, and contact the ombudsman immediately. The nurs... read more

It's not the worst place I've been to but it sure isn't great. When you walk in the front door - after parking in the church parking lot next door because their lot is full - you are assaulted by a strong perfume smell. This smell is pervasive and is upstairs too. It makes it hard to breathe and once your lungs get used to it you leave with a sore throat and hoarse voice. Not just me. My elderly relative has been here 1 week. No shower, same shirt for 3 days now, 30 min after ringing for nausea was the call acknowledged, a cna came and said she will tell nurse. 10 min later a different cna came in. We told her too. She went to tell The nurse (ray) got angry and yelled at cna when she told him. 45 min total to get bell answered and pill. She was also not able to use the toilet and has to BM in her bed. DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES TO VASONA CREEK!! My Dad stayed there twice after suffering many strokes. Everytime I went to see him, he never had any water to drink and food all over himself and the bed. I could tell that nobody had checked on him in awhile. Also, they were injecting my Dad with insulin. My Dad is not diabetic. This went on and on for about a week. They argued with me that his records say he is diabetic so they have to give it to him. If you are thinking or planning on having a relative or yourself stay at Vasona Creek..."DON'T....Please DON"T. I had the unpleasant stay at VC and felt I was staying in hell. No communication from any of the head staff. Loud talking until 1 or 2 in the morning from the working staff. I was lucky to have gotten 4 hours of sleep a night. It took an average of 20 to 30 minuets for the staff to help you to the restroom, that is if they came at all. I was to have Physical Therapy once a day for a total of six days I was ... read more

This place is a fucking joke. I understand being understaffed but at the same time these are people who obviously need extra care and they are not getting it. My grandmother has been in here for less than a month and we have had many incidents of her being left unchanged, sitting in a wet bed/pad or being left in a wheelchair for hours while no one responds to help. HORRIBLE DISFUNCTIONAL UNSAFE PLACE! Care in inept. My mother is 96, came in with a broken back and declining heart. I found her in a completely soaked bed of urine on multiple times including when she was transfered to my home she was soaked and had no idea when she had been changed last. Her gown, all the pillows sheets and pads were soaked......she was HELPLESS and they seemed not to check on her only when they gave meds......put her on a normal diet and she only eats small bites of applesaue or fruit.. My disabled friend has lived at Vasona Creek for 6 years. He's very independent, self-motivated, concerned with his rehab, and anxious not to fall backward. All he asks is two things: 1) that he get 10 minutes of physical therapy uninterrupted every day. Somehow, there's not enough time to do this--the therapist isn't there, or is called away in the middle of a session. 2) He's tired of having the wireless connection GONE for literally months on end.
