Get directionsI've been up and down on Vasona Creek. The PT's are pretty good, very professional. The facility is pretty clean, less so in the patients rooms. 1. There are not enough RN's here, especially in the PM or overnight. The majority of employees that I see are CNA's (weeks of training), followed by LVN's (months of training) and lastly RN's (years of training). I rarely see an RN in the facility. This place is a disgrace to all who need their services. The nursing staff are lackadaisical, at best. If a patient needs a service, they will wait at least 30 minutes. Food is often delivered cold and it usually tastes terrible. The nurses and CNA's are not happy to have questions asked of them. They don't want to be bothered. Many CNA's are playing computer games, instead of attending to patients. The rehab center is a joke. My mother died in Vasona Creek and it was sheer hell. It was a horrible experience for 6 months. There are a few great staff members, but for the most part the staff doesn't care, and ignore and even laugh at the people calling for help. If a family member isn't present, your loved one is uncared for. I inquired online from the LG community and you wouldn't believe the horror stories people responded with about their loved one's stays here. Vasona Creek was the 2nd skilled nursing facility we tried. It was almost just about as bad as the other facility we used. We had heard good things About Vasona Creek and were greatly disappointed to say the least. We would wait 30 minutes after pushing the call button for help until we finally had to chase employees down for help. They acted like we the family members of the patient were in their way, gee I am sorry waiting 30+ minutes was still construed as being in your way! STOLEN ITEMS! My grandpa was admitted last week and it breaks my heart to hear that my family tried to make sure he had no Jewlery on when he was admitted and tried to take off his wedding ring. He has never taken it off and my family was in able to as well. Then next day he did not remember a thing and the ring was. It missing. His had was I. Pain as if it was ripped off! My father has been here a week. I'm concerned about the quality of food (sandwiches, soft tacos with little meat) for dinner! Not much protein! The workers food is better. Someone labeled him incontinent...but he was using a bed pain at the hospital, less than week ago. Response to the nurse light take 30 minutes, if lucky. I'm disappointed, I heard good things about the physical therapy department, but if you don't survive the lack of nursing what good is the therapy.
UPDATE: My grandpa passed away a couple days after he left Vasona. Honestly, he would still be here if it wasn't for the inadequate care he received. If someone has limited mobility, you can't just leave them to rot in a bed all day. Anyway, I hope this serves as a warning to anyone out there who is considering Vasona. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE - unless you want them to leave in an ambulance or hearse! The attendants walk around like zombies and will walk away mid-sentence. My father-in-law was here off and on for 2+ months. Not a wonderful place. They occasionally forgot to feed him, took at least 10 minutes to respond to the call button, and hardly acknowledged us when we were waiting for help at the counter. Doctor Chi would not allow the staff to give us his contact information and it took 4 days to get him to call us. Totally unacceptable!
