I've used Vonage at home for 10 years and the extensions app from when it first came out. I find it most useful for making calls when I am overseas and don't want to use precious cell minutes. The app works most of the time even with slower internet speeds. It gives a warning when the bandwidth is insufficient. I have not had a problem with dropped calls. My only problem is that occasionally the app quits on startup for no apparent reason. Restarting gets it to function again.
I have been a Vonage customer for about five years now, and found the Extensions app to be particularly useful when I was in the hospital/rehab center following back surgery. The "SimulRing" feature is especially good, in that it allows you to pick up either your cell phone, or your home phone. As with any other IP-based telephone service, you become aware that when your Internet connection goes down, everything goes down – – except Extensions. If you have Vonage, just try it.
I love the fact that my land line calls get forwarded to my cell so my friends from overseas can call my landline (which is cheaper than calling my cell) and I can still be reached.
When calling overseas, the line is intermittent when using wifi. It works ok when wifi is turned off and the signal goes through a carrier line like AT&T.
Calls can be placed at home or from up to two cell phones. The call quality is always perfect at home but when over cell data can cut out or become less than perfect. In all, it's a great service both technically and customer service as well.
