So yummy today, and I had an extra bonus for my birthday. Free bao!!! Also, since this is Valentines week the buns were pink (no different flavour, but pretty cool). Sorry I didn't get a photo, but I was pretty hungry. Ordering via the web is super fast, and my preferred way to go. I also tried the brussel sprouts, amazingly good. Had a sweetish (but not too sweet) taste and the crispy rice was a neat complement. I would definitely get them again, but the order was pretty large so I would suggest if you are going with someon... read more
Bao Nine caught my eye when I was walking past on my way to my usual spot on this block. The shop was clean, bright, and empty when I walked up around 6pm I pondered the many options on the wall, and decided to try a three pack...opting for the cheeseburger one, short rib and crispy teriyaki flavors. Each had cute names, but I can't recall. I also didn't manage to get a photo because I inhaled these buns!! They were a pretty filling portion, between a heavy snack and a light meal. The flavor of the short rib bao was perfec... read more
Such a fun vibe! Fast casual. Food was great. Service was super fast. Will be back!!!!!
This is a bao+bowl restaurant. I went for dinner and it was quite quiet. I got the steak bowl. Toppings: Crispy fried shallots - very nice and flavorful with good crunch. Vegetables: Slices of carrots, cucumber, green onions, a radish of some sort or jicama, and lettuce Noodles - These were cold but pleasant. They were rice noodles. Two sauces: There was a fish sauce and a more soy type sauce. Both of these sauces were flavorful and worked well with the other ingredients. The one thing that was off was the steak. So t... read more
Small little cafe feel place with a few tables in the back to sit and eat. The menu has all the bao buns you'd like. The lady that helped us was very nice and patient. We decided with 2 threesome meals. Each one was light and fluffy with crispy meat and tasty sauces.
Ordering here is such a trip experience. The baos have fun pun-names, but it makes you feel like you're barking. The ambiance is nice; order at the counter and take a seat, you'll get served and return your tray when done. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed by the baos themselves. Although the kitschy, "less traditional" options are fun, they didn't do it for me in terms of flavor.
The staff was great and the food was even better! It was a perfect spot to walk to for a quick bite on NYE.
Oddly enough I really like the fillings Bao Nine has but just not the Bao Bun itself. To me what makes a Bao bun good is the flavor and softness of the bun and I feel these lack that. The bun doesn't have a lot of flavor to it and tastes like it was frozen and unfrozen at some point. Even if that was the case I would have less of an issue if the flavor was there. With better buns my 3 stars would go to 5 stars and I might go weekly (maybe it's better this way lol)
Skip the bowls, very mediocre, but do not pass up the Baos themselves, flavorful, light and fluffy.
