I come here when I have cravings for Bao buns and I'm never disappointed. My favorite is the hot motha clucka. The service is quick and always cordial. There's enough space to sit and eat but they also pack the buns in takeout boxes that make it easy to take to go! If you're looking for a quick bite, stop by here
Aside from the convenient location, there were so many great aspects about my order, namely the taste, price, and speed. I ordered carry out, as did pretty much everyone else in the restaurant. Of the five people I saw, everyone ate out, even though the interior was clean and had plenty of table seating. What appeared to be a skeleton crew at the time still worked very fast, getting my large order together in 20 minutes and keeping me updated on my status through their website. The main reason why I gave this place a 5... read more
Bao Nine is a hidden gem located in Center City. They serve delicious bite-size bao's and bowls if you're feeling a little more hungry. You can get a free bao or a side dish with your first purchase, which is such a good deal. I tried two of their chicken bao's and they were so flavorful and unique and delicious. Every time I'm in Philadelphia I have to come here!
This place was definitely very unique and interesting: the food and the aesthetic of the restaurant. Like the genre of food, it's all a fusion. Some of these baos are hit or miss, but they're worth a try. However, service is little bit slow and these baos are definitely not enough for a meal. It's very small and not very filling at all.
The baos were all very flavorful. My favorite ending up being a tied between the Bao Boa and the Sticky Chicky. The only downside are how pricy the baos are as 6 baos will run you almost $30.
I drove by this place recently after remembering I had them bookmarked for over a year now and decided it was a perfect time to try them out. I completed an online order and was pleasantly surprised that with your first order you get a free bao or side ! I decided on 3 buns: the short rib, garbanzo (veggie option) and buffalo chicken. The time for pick up was 20 mins and I was so hungry I almost cancelled the order but they texted me after 7 mins that it was ready for pickup. Inside, it was so clean! Wow, I was very amazed at this place. Prices were good, selection was very different, taste was better than expected, and even the packaging was good (it turns into a little plate). I tried 4 different flavors, some of them I have never seen in bao before, so it was a nice treat. I tried the yenta, bao BAO, lil BAO wow, and the bang bang. Each one was full of flavor and different from each other. I'm only upset that I didn't get to try the gobbaoler due to not being available right now. I will definitely be back here on my n... read more
Came here with 2 friends and we shared the 12 pack of buns. We chose the hot motha clucka, bao boa, crispy chick, and lil bao wow. Crispy chick was definitely the best of the 4. Overall wasn't wowed by any of the food and they all came out pretty cold. Also pretty pricey for baos. Came out to $20/person
Got 3 buns for $14.50 for lunch. I liked the bang bang (tempura shrimp) but was not a fan of the recommended Bao Boa (braised short rib and wiz - their take on Philly Cheesesteak) bc the meat was too hard and dry or the Crispy Chick (which I also thought was dry). Would be interesting to try some of the others though! The service was quick and friendly and there was no wait, which I appreciated, and plenty of tables and a couple of outlets.
