I have enjoyed dining at various Black Bear Diner locations. However, I had a most unfortunate incident at the Black Bear Diner in Arvin as I was traveling home from southern California. I ate a hamburger patty and eggs for breakfast. About two hours later my stomach felt bad and I had nausea and diarrhea all the way home. As soon as I got rid of the food I was fine. I think you should be aware of this lack of food safety at this Arvin location.

We have been going to Black Bear Diners for over 20 years and always looked forward to being there. However our last experience was terrible. We stopped there and had lunch on our way to Bakersfield and enjoyed a very good meal. On our return trip the same day we stopped for dinner. IT WAS TEABLE!! My wife had back ribs and I had chicken pot pie. Both were the worst we have ever had. The ribs were the worst of the two. They were burned black and extremely dry. In my opinion the manager, cook, and server should be reprimanded... read more

We went to this location after a family outting. It was my husband and 4 kids..our wait time took forever. Once we ordered our food took forever and families of the same size got their food long before us. When the food arrived it was cold and not pleasant to eat. The service was horrible, not once did we get refills on our beverages. This is the last time I stop at this location, this location is understaffed. Really bad experience.

The lady at the front to seat people was rude when we walked in and waited for our seat. The waitress we had was great and very nice. I went to pay for the bill and because of traveling my card had been declined. That wasn’t the problem. The problem was the person at the register(same as the person that sat us at a table) talked to me rudely about my card being declined. I asked her to try it again and she said fine but it’s gojnh to be pending twice and it’s not going to work. It wasn’t that my card was declined, it was the... read more

Pancakes hard and overdone. Bacon was requested as extra extra crispy but served medium. Waitress (Carolyn) never came back once to ask how everything was therefore NO tip. Had to go to the cashier to ask for the bill. Cashier (Katherine) never asked if meal was good or apologized for not receiving our bill. We will never stop at THIS Black Bear again! What a mistake giving this location another try.

Our server Carol seemed impatient to get our order. I told her I wanted chicken fried steak, over easy eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy. Hot tea and water. She brought me a a grizz? I sent it back. She seemed upset, so I told her maybe I misordered. So then new meal was prepared for me, gravy was lumpy. Biscuits old and cold. I tried to be polite, as I never complain nor do I send anything back. We had told her we were hungry as we have been moving family members all day. My meal was $18.53 to much. The blonde cashier wa... read more

After placing our order, we waited over 20 minutes for our meals to arrive. The server did not check in with us during this time. When the food arrived, the California Benedict was cold and not cooked properly. The server never checked in with us to see how the food was after delivering it. The meal was not edible. The server did not ask about it when she cleared the plates. Water was not refilled. The floor was not cleaned after families left, leaving food messes on the floor in the aisle and under the table for the next ... read more

Ordered the tri-tip combo. Steak was grizzly and highly peppered. Server was kind to order a replacement. The replacement steak was better—but I would not recommend to others. Tricia was friendly and professional. Very attentive. One of the best servers I’ve experienced.
