In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. When we first started going to Black Bear, we were very impressed. Now they seem to have slid into mediocrity. Not bad but not spectacular.

The food was good once I got a warm plate. The service was awful. The manager on duty after taking my cold plate of food called other employees over and they all began to touch my returned plate before getting me a new one. When she came back with a a new meal she didn't apology or come back and check in on me. In the middle of our waiter taking our order my four year old was I guess taking to long. He was trying to decide a flavor of ice cream the gentlemen taking our order left in the middle of our order to go help someone... read more

They have amazing food, but terrible service. We asked for straws, never got them. I got up to get the straws myself, the waitress watched me get them and never said a word. We asked for sweet tea to drink and we were brought unsweetened tea. When we asked for what we ordered, we had to ask three times to get the sweet tea. Then, she never refilled our drinks. We had to flag someone else down for the check. The waitress never came back between the meals being delivered and the check being delivered. I will never go here agai... read more
