In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. It was so nice to find out Sun City/Menifee was getting a new establishment, we have dined here a total of three times and two out of the three times when we went to pay, Chloe a young blonde girl who is at the register has been very cold, not friendly, border line rude even. Both times it's like she hates her job and you are bothering her. The food and atmosphere are not the problem, it's the treatment by employees like Chloe That make me not want to return . Prices went up and quality of food went down!! Disappointed on our last visit here on June 15th. We've been coming here since it opened and love the breakfasts. Unfortunately, our last visit on Saturday June 15th for dinner was not good. It wasn't that busy but we waited a long time for our food and when it arrived Prime Rib was way over cooked and not even close to Medium Rare like my hubby asked for. They took it back and brought out a rare one. Our 18 year old granddaughter ordered the Surf & Turf and the steak was tiny... read more

Egads! We were greeted by a very grumpy young lady who barely said a single word. No welcome in, nothing. $4.00 for a bottomless coffee that was so awful you could finish even one cup!? Very pricey for food served cold. The only bright spot to our visit was the incredible waitress! Overpriced and underwhelming.

On May 10th, my wife and twelve of her friends celebrated Mother's Day at the Black Bear Diner in Sun City. The waiter serving them appeared overwhelmed and behaved unprofessionally, rudely, and disrespectfully. The large group required a long table, and he struggled to communicate appropriately. When several of them requested separate checks, he snapped at one woman in a loud voice, telling her in Spanish that he had already heard that request. His attitude and tone were unacceptable. They need a new manager!!! Juan is absolutely rude. When this first opened , they told me many times that this was a dog friendly patio. I have followed blackbear diner for many years and have eaten at many throughout the country, where this is usually the policy. Today I came to excitedly get my birthday meal and brought my pup who's been having back leg problems and he also has a birthday this month.. the hostess was happy to seat us on the patio.
