Ok..let's stop this Marin county bus!! I have been going to the Bear back in the 80s when it was the original in Shasta. It's an epic success story. Restaurants all over Oregon, Cali, Utah and more I'm sure They land a store front in San Rafael. The land of fake boobs, plastic lips and BMWs. Well I saw it on the fly by on the freeway and almost crashed.. Making a U turn I arrived. This place was by far the best black bear I've been in Service: Very nice gal took my order and was attentive to me all the way. Order was as I... read more
I just had a beautiful dinner with my friend Bruce and the service was excellent (Lupita e) even the owner greeted us. The food was fantastic and at a reasonable price. We'll be back....
I had the rib eye and it was excellent. Real mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. Yum! Salad was included and it was great. Our waitress, Lupita E. could have won the congeniality award! The owner who owns 2 other Black Bear Diners was incredibly hospitable and made me an amazing chocolate shake. See photo. The prices are quite reasonable too.
I am visiting from Sacramento and I came here to pick up breakfast. The kitchen staff made a small mistake and I brought it to the attention of the employee working the phone he grabbed his manager right away. Shaun was very helpful and did everything in his power to make it right. 10/10 customer service and great food. Try the big foot chicken fried steak it is huge and delicious.
I've been to the Black Bear Diner in Buena Park and love the place so I was happy to find one in San Rafael! As usual the food was delicious but the service I received was phenomenal! Thank you Robin! I felt as if I kept bugging her but she continually met my needs with a smile on her face. I really appreciate it when someone has the perfect personality for whatever position they hold. Thank you Robin!
My wife and I recently moved to San Rafael and looked up breakfast places near us. We decided to try Black Bear Diner and we couldn't be happier with that choice. Southern comfort for with fresh ingredients and wonderful, homey ambiance. We loved it so much that we returned again for breakfast the next morning. If you are overly concerned about carbs and calories, you should probably go elsewhere. If you are looking for a great place to eat, look no further. Outstanding!!!
I love the chicken fried steak. It comes in 3 sizes so I usually have the largest so I can take at least half of it home to have it for one or two more meals. It's the best Chicken Fried Steak I've ever had. All the food is good here and you get lots of it. Service is quite good and very friendly. They have a formula that works.
The servings are much too grand for normal appetites, but they are sufficiently tasty to enjoy and then get a to-go container. I ate the WHOLE serving of the vegetarian omelet. Black Bear in Terra Linda, close to CVS, is terrific for a Denny's-type (but better quality) brunch treat. The only negative for me was that the coffee tasted a bit like having been on the burner too long. Service is super. Congratulations to Karan, its owner. Welcome to Marin!
Today is Veterans Day. When I ordered breakfast, I was asked if I had served in the military. Yes, I had from '68 - '71. I did not bring any identification, but that didn't matter. My breakfast was free! Just had to pay for coffee. That was very thoughtful and appreciated.
