I was looking for a restaurant to rest and catch up on the cellphone. Black Bear Diner is located a block from the Ventura highway, mere blocks from the beach. This is exactly what I was looking for. Menu is immense. Breakfast, lunch and dinner available. I had two eggs over easy, sausage and a waffle. There was so much food I could only eat half of it. Perfect sausage with juicy on the inside crispy on the outside. The sausage is made on the premises. There are three types of hot sauce from all Black Bear. The Baby B... read more

Basic breakfast food. Great service but overpriced for the food served. Interesting playlist

I haven't been to Black Bear diner since I was a kid. They serve a lot of food where and they have a lot of options for kids. They also offer wine, beer, and mimosas. The desserts look amazing.

The food is basic "truck stop" fare that seems pre-cooked, didn't arrive hot. Scrambled eggs had that pre-cooked patina, pancakes were firm and cupped, not hot. The coffee was not good. The hot Italian sausage was decently spicy but very greasy. Service is good and pleasant. Serving portion size is very large. A bit expensive at $20. I've had worse, it's edible and I was hungry. It's just disappointing as this was my "cheat" meal and I was hoping for better. ‍ Ok, I need to admit that I recently returned from Paris... read more

Good quality and lots of options if you're looking for an abundant breakfast. It's one of the few options in the area that opens early. We got their chocolate chip pancakes and eggs with bacon and larger pancakes and everything was yummy and plenty. Service was welcoming and personable. I'd definitely go back (despite fares tend to be on the pricier end).
