In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. My wife tried out this place and the food was excellent. We were disappointed in the service snd the music was loud enough it was hard to hold a conversation. We had not planned on returning, but the food brought us back. This time we met Manny and he provided such friendly and professional service, we had a far better experience and the music was at a decent level. We plan on returning in the future only because Manny changed our mind about the place.

Such good people working here and the place is so clean! I couldn't wait to try the food because I've eaten at this chain of restaurants in other states, I was prepared to have some delicious comfort food and I wasn't disappointed at all. BBD's new slogan is "Twice the price and twice the waiting time for your meal!" Not what the chain used to be. I didn't believe the prices when I saw them. Took so long to get food my wife had to get hers to go. Plusses: friendly waitress, atmospheric surroundings, decent food. But my pleasant memories of Black Bear Diner are a part of the distant past.
