Get a reservation or you will not experience this classic! Our reservation was at 5:30 PM and they were already turning away wannabe diners. All of the patrons of Josefina (which was adjacent) seem to be clogging Fiorello now. Great place to eat -- if you can get in!
I chose Fiorello because of its once wonderful open selection of vegetables and other foods displayed at its bar, a mainstay of its menu, in selections of 3 or 4. In this instance I ordered a plate of three different veg. They announced after taking the order that they had run out of all of them (artichoke heart, Cippolina Onions, grilled peppers). It was noisy, cramped; average food and average service. It exhausted me to be there.
We had dinner outside on Memorial Day. They must have been shorthanded because the service was very slow. Had to ask for water three times. But even putting that aside, the food is average and very expensive. The only plus is there outdoor seating and they are across from Lincoln Center. We will not go back.
We had terrible service at Cafe Fiorello. We arrived at 7:30 and ordered drinks and a pizza to share followed by entrees and a bottle of wine. Before we finished our drinks, the pizza arrived. Before we finished our pizza the main courses arrived. There was literally no room on the table for the food, so we asked the servers to take away the remaining pizza. There were no apologies. Great food. Very overpriced for noisy, chaotic atmosphere.
Food was good and service was deplorable. I've tried this restaurant a few times now and each time I experienced some kind of attitude from the staff. Two of those times I explained the situation to the manager/captain and he just stared at me. No response. I guess they don't feel they need to even try.
The service was terrible and the food mediocre. We tried to pay using a gift card, and the waiter told us the card was no good. I has to ask him to return the gift card to me and the manager found out it had $100 available. It was not a positive experience overall.
The fried artichoke dish I ordered was burnt and cold. I found it disturbing that they would serve something burnt and cold to a customer.
