I tried Dave's hot chicken for the first today and it was very tasty. I do recommend the #2 with the sliders it was delicious. The chicken is yummy and I love that they give you pickles with the food. Although I'm not sure how long your supposed to wait to get your food I waited 20 minutes for my food to be ready. I suggest maybe placing the order before u get there instead of placing the order when your there and skipping the wait time. Other than that everything else is fantastic and I love their fries too!

So glad this spot opened up on 2nd st. The chicken is amazing. Not the biggest selection, but all the food is fire. And they are open late

TLDR: Maybe hype only works against you here. Is this better than the readily available Popeye's sandwich? Not by a long shot. It's probably "as good" in its own way. But when you're neck and neck with the national chain on flavor, cost is your only other competitive advantage. Of course Dave's is $1-2 more so it's up to you if it's worth the difference. Honestly I think the negative reviews are from people who either, don't eat a lot of chicken or have something against this place and aren't true Yelp'rs. My take...compared to Cane's, the quality of chicken here is much better and their tenders are double the size. Also, the French fries at Dave's have more flavor. Seems like more bang for your buck. This is the 2nd Dave's location I've been to. This place had the nicest staff when we went (I did not catch their names). While taste is definitely a subjective thing, I truly believe they cook their food well. Their fried were just how I like them - crispy outside and soft inside. The chicken is juicy, and the batter is great. The bread serves its purpose - to help cut some of that heat (if you get it hot). The restaurant was kept clean, including the bathrooms. I tried this place for the first time last night and was super impressed. The chicken is so juicy and hot and flavorful. Best fast food chicken I've ever had. There's a wide scale of spice level to choose from - I got mild, and my bf got medium. It's a pretty big jump in spice from mild to medium, so I can't imagine the extra hot or reaper! Wasn't impressed. The food was OK, and the service was good and friendly. It just didn't live up to all the hype I ordered mild and it was right on the verge of being too spicy for me, but admittedly I have a low level of heat tolerance. It took a little longer than expected to get our meal, but everything is made to order, so I didn't have a problem with that. The place is small so eating in wasn't a great experience. Not sure I'd go back, but if I do, I'll order ahead for pickup.
