After living here a year and having a less than positive move-out experience with these people, I'm downgrading the Domain from my last review. The heat finally got fixed (after I threatened to move and also called and complained to the Oakland City Council who had loaned Domain's developer $5 million to finish the abandoned apartment project). Domain is a beautiful building, however, the area is extremely shady (e.g. at night expect lots of noise and annoyance from the transvestite prostitutes on 14th) and the building stuff has steadily decreased in quality since the building opened. On top of this the rents charged in the building are out of line with reality. I give it a five star based on my top requirements, which are: - cheaper then living in SF - proximity to BART - proximity to gym - proximity to downtown coffee shops, restaurants and bars (The Trappist!!!) Would be zero stars if I could. Domain by Alta, managed by Riverstone Residential, advertises itself as luxury rentals. Well if you like to live with a leaky roof, black mold and fly infestation, then this is the luxury rental for you! We moved in last December and up until about 3 weeks ago, I may have given this place 2 stars. The apartments were freezing cold last winter. Yelpers can refer to the review from my wife, Kim O., for most of my opinions and observations on the Domain by Alta leaky, moldy, fly-infested apartment and the criminal, deceitful and intimidating tactics used by Riverstone Residential Group, the property managers. Spent 3 months there and have to say it wasn't bad. Outside of the prostitutes fighting their johns on the weekends and fire alarms blaring it wasn't a bad community. The staff at the time we lived there were nice and easy to work with.... UNTIL it was time to move out. The assistant manager at the time lied to us several times in regards to what we were being charged. Granted it was only $175 but when you're told "we charged you for painting the wall" and "the carpets needed PROFESSIONAL cleaning", only for her to come back... read more

Nice building to live in, close proximity to the BART. We had some turbulence while living here but the past 6 months or so have been pretty good.

I live in a studio apartment, and just got a rent increase: when you combine my rent, parking, and random inexplicable fees, I pay ***$1,833 per month.*** (No, that does NOT include PGE or cable.) That is a TOTALLY unreasonable price for the apartment, and especially for the neighborhood. The management sent me a letter committing to not charging me a month to month fee, then went back on it a couple of months later. This is on top of a rent increase, which all told brings my rent increase to nearly 25%. Just consider if you want to rent from people who explicitly and in writing commit to something and then a couple of months later act like that never happened.
