This review is long overdue. Run, don't walk, away from this place. I apologize to the 1 or 2 members of the staff who do their jobs correctly. But to the rest of you, including Mark the community manager, you are down right awful. Getting any information out of them is like pulling teeth. I gave notice to move out and never heard a peep from them about what needed to be done in order to complete my move out process. The day before I moved, I was told to just stop by and drop off the keys. When I did, I was told I should hav... read more

Jordan R - I apologize for providing less than exceptional service during final weeks of your stay, and for the issues related to your deposit check. As I understand it, the issue has been resolved. Thank you for your feedback. Mark Chatman| Community Director
I'm a current resident and just called the emergency line to let building management know that an apartment unit (which is currently occupied) is cleared out, lights left on and the door is wide open. It's been left that way since 7pm today, and it's 11:30pm. I'm mindful that there has been an FBI bust in the last couple of weeks (source: on-duty security guard) and at least one apartment theft last week (source: undercover officer standing outside the back gate while taking a neighbor's dog out for a walk). So I figured the... read more

I just moved out of Domain as my 13 month lease was up. Overall, I had a good experience during my time there. I originally chose Domain for two reasons: the location (can't beat the 15 minute commute to SF), and the pet policy. The building itself is relatively new and the units are pretty well maintained. I never used the common spaces and amenities, but it was nice knowing I had access to them if I wanted to use them. The office and maintenance staff were friendly and helpful whenever I had any issues, though towards the ... read more

Have been living here for six months. The trash bill is insane - over $70 per month per unit. The property management group is not responding to our request to open the trash bill of the entire complex. A lot of people dump their furniture and do illegal dumping. Oh and also " sales tax" will be added to your rent and parking. Your overall rent will be Much more than what is advertised online.
Business response:
Seung H - Thank you for sharing your concerns. The trash billing for individual apartments is based on one amount divided equally among all occupied apartments. We have recently added an extra pick up. I expect that we will see a reduction in the trash that is left in the trash rooms. As with most communities, there will be additional fees for for pets parking, taxes etc. Our team will continue to discuss with prospects, and I'm happy to discuss these with your further. I love this place. Sure it's not perfect, but which place is? In the grand scheme of things, it's pretty awesome. My husband and I have been here for 6 months. The staff is super friendly, the amenities (gym, bike repair shop, yoga studio, grill section, lounge, coffee lounge, etc etc) are great, it's close to Bart, close to uptown & Jack London. I'm probably missing some, but all this to say that we love it here. Sure the rent is on the high side, but you get a love great stuff with it. Did I mention the staff is great?! ;)... read more

I left Domain a few weeks ago after two years. The San Francisco commute is ideal and the property was always well maintained. Mid way through my tenancy management companies changed and there was some mediocre transition staff but the core staff for the new company is excellent. Most specifically Jennifer and Julia made me feel like the building was an extension of my home. They both were excellent in the balance of being warm, welcoming and professional. There was an older black gentlemen who handles maintenance who was al... read more

It's been 65 days since I moved out of my apartment and after weeks of emailing and phone calls, Domain finally sent me a check for my security deposit. However, they neglected to include an itemized list of deductions, and after calling the office, I found out that they deducted a $135 dollar cleaning fee despite the fact that I left my apartment spotless. According to Julia Mendoza, via her supervisor, Jennifer McMurtrey, their policy is to charge all tenants a light ($135) cleaning fee at the least. If you have your a... read more

I read the Yelp reviews of Domain Oakland after submitting application and learned of the criminal activity occurring inside and around the property as well as its hidden service fees, heating, maintenance and management issues. So I withdrew my application within 12 hours of submitting it. Domain Oakland has refused to refund me the $45 application fee. Also, after 6 weeks, I still haven't received the $300 deposit that I gave to take an apartment off market, which is required before submitting an application. I was told th... read more

Hello L.H. I am very sorry for the delay in getting your holding deposit back to you. The normal timeline for this should be within 21 days from your move out/cancellation and processing at the corporate level. I am glad we were able to obtain a local address to hopefully expedite this process. We understand your frustration and are doing everything we can to help the issue. Thank you for your patience and I hope that sometime in the future, we will get the opportunity to show you a different side of Domain than what you... read more
I absolutely love living here BUT - Trash is over $50 a month - that's insane on top of the already expensive rent - Only lived here 5 months and there is an entirely new management team in place - good food drink options but most stuff closes at 5 and on weekends so be prepared to walk/bike Pros - great location to bart and not far to lake Merritt - easy for me to sign lease/etc from out of state - nice building/apartments - Never too loud/noisy - feel safe
