Domain worked out perfectly for me and I enjoyed my time there. I work in San Francisco and my commute was less than 25 minutes door to door to my office in SOMA on BART. In fact my commute time was less than my coworkers who live in the Marina, North Beach, and Richmond districts. For the price of a San Francisco studio I leased a 2bd/2ba luxury apartment in beautiful downtown Oakland. I lived at the Domain for one year before I bought a house. I decided to share my pros and cons with others who might consider living at the Domain. Pros: Great centralized location, easy access to Bart, restaurants and bars. You can walk through the federal building straight from Bart to the Domain up until 8:00 p.m. Amenities galore: great fully equipped exercise room, free Wi-Fi lounge area, pool table, yoga sessions and outdoor sitting areas. I absolutely LOVEEE it here! I moved into the Domain May of 2012 from TX.I find it to be a relatively quiet community despite being downtown. Staff... property was sold recently.I was nervous about it but I gotta say the new staff has been superb! Super friendly,have added some great additions,they offer free pastries once a week and are always looking for suggestions to improve. My partner and I have lived in Domain for two years now. This weekend will be our last. To say that I'm sad to leave is an understatement. This place is absolutely fabulous! If you like a combination of modern finishes, and a warm and cozy atmosphere, then this is the place for you! Domain is ideally located in the charming area of Downtown Oakland. I have been living at Domain since July 2011. In fact, I was the 2nd tenant to move into the complex. I've witnessed the construction, transacted with previous management/ownership, and seen it through its growth as well as the growing pains. First let me say, I really like living here. You can't ask for a better location, the grounds are nice, the staff is attentive, and I really dig my apartment. Now, that's not to say it's always been this positive. I recently moved into the Domain under it's new management team and this place is great! I appreciate the great customer service and professionalism from the office staff. They seem to go above and beyond any other apartment staff that I have experienced in the past. The maintenance crew is nice and friendly, I'm not waiting more that 24hrs for a response when there's problem... they are pretty on top of it. After living in the Domain for 2.5 months we decided to leave. They neglected to send us a rent bill with the full amount and charged us $100.00 overdue, which they also neglected to tell us all for .03 cents. Once they no longer let Julia or Brittany work with tenants it left Bonnie, Aja , and Fernando. The absolute worse service ever-so I thought . You don't get what you pay for at the Domain in Oakland. My husband and I lived here for a year and after evacuating the apartment every few weeks in the middle of the night because of fire alarms, we decided to call it quits. Yes, we had a yoga studio in the building, but we also had hookers on our corner, crazy bums outside, and the notorious fire alarms. My job is taking me away from the area, so unfortunately I am ending lease at the Domain at the end of next month. (I'll update my review after my move out to share my experience with how that is handled) I've lived in the building for a year now. Here are my pro's and con's. Pro's: Location: Getting to and from BART is really easy, and very secure.
