We have been renting storage space here for one year. So far, two 5% rent increases. I would advise you to go with another storage that won't gouge you.

I really appreciated the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the facility and the convenience of the location. I also felt had when, after a few months, the price on my unit increased. At that time, of course, my stuff had been put in and to pull it out would be a huge waste of time. Somehow, I would like Extra Space Storage to be more up front about their pricing, and not subject the local customer to pricing fluctuations from corporate headquarters 3 states away. Worst storage experience in my life!! Read all the one star reviews. They are all true. There is no service here. There is plenty of self-manufactured confusion - all rigged so you pay more. I would never, never recommend anyone store here. There are cheaper and better places. This place is so poorly managed, it is a wonder it functions. For starters, their "receipts" are very confusing. 2 stars for cleanliness and location and a somewhat friendly staff. Otherwise, I can only recommend this place if you sign up online for autopay and and only plan on using the storage for a short period of time. I had no issues - signing up, moving in, cancelling and moving out all went fine. However, as has been mentioned before, my main complaint is the regular rate increases. ***Before you rent here, check if your existing renters insurance or other personal insurance covers contents of a rented storage unit.*** This place is very tricky and tries to tell you their insurance is MANDATORY, but they don't tell you *unless you ask* that your personal insurance is an acceptable substitute. The business owners are nice. They helped me a lot. I ran late on a payment by 30 days. I was stranded in the Bay Area and relocated to this area for work and school. I was being hurt and was overworked. The owner of the building was nice enough to let me go another 24 hours without auctioning my things. I appreciated the service. Oh, this is awful. Horrible customer service. They were really friendly in my initial contact with them and they had good rates, but when I made a deposit to hold the space and cancelled the space afterwards, they claimed to have refunded my deposit. I called twice to confirm this and they never issued a refund. Not sure if this was a mistake or their way of making extra money, but after 2 times calling them you think they would've figured it out. Will not do business with them in the future because of this.

Agree with other poster about the rate increases. This is how they make their money. Our rates increase by $10 a month every six months or so. We signed up around $130 and now we're almost at $200. Forget it, we're moving out. ALso, the place is not well lit or well maintained. Our door has gotten stuck several times just because it's cheap construction and our unit is virtually like a cave in terms of light.

I've stored my stuff for the past 2 years at Extra Space Storage. The rates were low at the beginning, then 6 mos later, they start jacking up the rates ever couple months, and now, i'm paying about 30% more than I did when i got there. I actually pay about $20 more a month than I would if i just walked in off the street and rented the same space. When I tried to appeal the rate increase, they were apathetic and told me there was nowhere to complain or appeal. I am now moving out of there because I can't stand the dishon... read more
