Management (Ali) informed me that the entire J building leaks and that they/she is aware of this yet they continue having paying tenants in that building(!) They stated that they are aware that the building is notoriously leaky--- but I never received a call or an offer to move my belongings to a non-leaking unit which one would think is the minimal thing a storage facility should do when they have a defective roof and leak problem. They are like the others in this industry. They will lure you in with a low rate, but then raise it often and much - about 25% a year.

Extremely dissatisfied: Their Berkeley unit foreclosed on our household possessions during the recent holidays, during which time we were first dealing with the critical illness, and then mourning the death of a very close family member. We never received any timely, mailed notice advising us of outstanding late charges, fees, etc; this may be actionable. This place is problematic for many reasons. The first one is that there's no rent control on storage and they jack up the rent about every 4 to 6 months. It doesn't matter if you're a long term customer, they are greedy and keep jacking it up. It's a horrible experience to drive into this place, which is no-man's land (no-woman's land, no-one's-land). Few days after I moved in, my stuff was wiped out. Extra space claimed they had been calling me, but only left me an email a week after the incident. Rather than checking various cameras in the area, they only looked at the camera in front of my unit and because I didn't park right in front, they claimed they didn't see me on footage. The new person working there is literally horrible. She is unprofessional and had the audacity to hang up on me after messing up and cutting me off a bunch. This place is ghetto. Gotta say, if the staff is authoritative and treats you like a child, then they are regularly dealing with children or forcing them to behave like children by being condescended to. Moved out, tried to throw away some stuff in their dumpster with zero signage that the dumpster is not for storage residents. Had a staff member come out of the office while shaking her head condescendingly from a distance. I've been a customer with Extra Space Storage for a little over 5 years but with this particular facility for 3.5 of those 5 years. I recommend you give SERIOUS consideration BEFORE you choose ES for your storage needs, and not just at this location but at ANY location of this corporation. I'll begin with the negative. A little disappointed that with some of the policies the storage place has. I vacated the storage early and was sent notification that I had vacated storage, but they were unwilling to do a partial refund of my fees. I was told unfortunately I have the storage until next month. I think that is a waste when the storage could be rented out to someone else.
