Don't rent here. The workers at this location don't care about the customers. I was a customer for 2 years. I moved my stuff out this past Sunday. I called them Monday twice to discuss my account closure. They didn't answer either time. I drove to the site and they had a "Be Back in 1.5 hours" sign, I left. So I did the "Live Chat' thing on the website. I asked to close my account but I was told I couldn't get a credit for rest of the month (which I was fine with). AWFUL! My storage unit was broken into and they stole my husbands heavy duty tools, which came out to ~ $10,000 loss! Their security cameras are terrible and record low quality images and they only have a few cameras. The cameras really give you a false sense of security. The thieves literally just broke into the unit and it was recorded on camera, but the quality was so poor that the thieves/ their car could not be identified. I was paying for a storage unit at AAAAA Self Storage when Extra Space Storage bought them out. I paid for a unit for an additional 5 years at Extra Space until I found a big enough space in Berkeley to move my stuff into. Yes it took that long. So I closed my account with Extra Space. This place would get four stars except for they are more than double the price of storage elsewhere. They also have had homeless people renting spaces as living spaces, though the people I saw lurking were keeping it way down low. They have great gate hours, so there's that.

Expect hidden fees. Extra Space Storage reels customers in with "1/2 off" or "1st month free" gimmicks because they make the money back in other forms. The average self storage customer probably ends up utilizing the service longer than anticipated, which they count on. Expect your rate to increase. The rates are not locked. Your payments will increase! Expect to be asked worth of items in storage at time of signing lease. Expect mandatory insurance fees of at least $32/mth. Wow, rate increase within 5 months of moving in with absolutely NO notice whatsoever and no reasoning for the increase. From a few other reviews I now see, this is apparently a regular and recurring practice. They may claim it's due to rising costs, but the fact that their advertised rates remain unchanged is proof that these increases are nothing more than taking advantage of their customers. Will be moving my stuff out ASAP. Stay away from Extra Space and their predatory business practices.

The first unit I rented in April 2016 in Building K had a lock fitting that can be removed from the outside of the locked unit with a Phillips screwdriver. I did not look closely until I had moved in my things and locked the unit. Then I realized my items could be removed by anyone who is able to access the yard. The staff assured me that these units were "grandfathered in" and since they are near the manager's apartment, her dogs would bark if anyone tried to take my items. My daughter is a student at Berkeley and stored her things here over the summer. She received a call in July letting her know the unit she rented had been broken into. We are out of state and they refused to send pictures. When she got back on campus and went to pick up her things, virtually all had been stolen. Management told her to file a police report. How bad could it be? Well... I've filed a fraud report with Mastercard. After 5 months, rent was increased significantly, (What?) and they simply charged the higher amount to the automated payment system. Yes, they charged a higher amount than I had approved, without notice. Email asking for information about what was happening was ignored by the business.
