Beware they will raise the cost of your rental unit without warning within *months* of your signing up. Is this even legal? They don't tell you that they'll raise your rent to "market rate" when they gladly take your money when you first rent a unit. Extra space storage is a huge scam!!! They have purchased many fake five-star reviews on Google Maps. Look how many of these people have only reviewed this place and nowhere else! Re: Extra Space reply. Do not rent from Extra Space Storage. 1. Hidden in their agreement is that they can (and do) raise your rent at any time. 2. After ONE MONTH at the advertised rate that I signed up for ($167/mo) they raised it by 50%!!! 3. Without notice!!! 4. Only when I called them on this did they agree to a PARTIAL refund, and would not guarantee future increases would not happen. 5. They also changed my access code without notice, so when I went to my unit weeks later, I could not get in without another renter giving me their access cod... read more

My son rented a unit from them because they promoted on their website that they have managers living on site and 24/7 security cameras on all units. Since he just moved to Los Angeles, he needed a secured place to store his valuables. He had a small padlock that was told by one of their staff that it was sufficient because this storage place was a very secured one. I just moved to LA from Florida and placed about $20,000 worth of stuff in this storage unit in good faith, The security who signed me up ensured my stuff was safe and they have only had water damage. I went back a week later to find my lock bent and scraped with all my things stolen. Identity, laptop, iPad, about 15,000 in designer clothes Louis Vuitton backpack etc... Through my 10 years in LA, I've utilized many different storage units from different storage companies for both business and personal use and THIS location was BY FAR THE WORST. The heavyset manager, Ray, is a smarmy, creepy, despicable person who, at first, feigns politeness. But each time you return, he gets nastier. You'll learn soon enough that he's not on your side - he's out to get you - whether it be to talk down on you, charge you erroneous fees - not deal with legitimate problems with respect and understanding ... read more

I went in to get a quote on a 5 x 10 storage space- I have had 5 x10 before so I know what the space looks like. I was shown what looked to be a 3 x 7 for almost $250 a month. Two blocks away I was quoted $165 for a 6 x 13, which looked to be actually 6 x 13. When I mentioned to the customer service representative (who was polite by the way, so I'm not putting anything on him) why they would say this space was 5 x 10 when it most definitely was not, he replied that all spaces were an "approximation." I went to retrieve items from my storage today after my lock wouldn't open last night. Not sure why that happened, but I was able to lubricate the lock and get it open despite climate control issues which must be the culprit for freezing the mechanism. A new lock should not be tight after two months without use. As I was leaving the unit this afternoon I tried to find someone in the office to unlock the dumpster. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Manager is rude and unhelpful. Their operation is disorganized. I was turned away for business past 5:30pm although the office is supposed to be open until 6pm. The rude employee advised that he's there alone and plans to be out of there by 6pm and to come at 5:30pm. Call center gave the wrong hours information. Why deal with such a place when there a so many other options?? Also their price points are not competitive. AVOID THIS PLACE if you value good helpful service and cooperation. BAD BAD ... read more

This is the thing: Positive: I feel like the unit is safe. Super positive: Wendy who manages the site is an angel. Negative: Damn Expensive! Got the first month free. Unit started at $89/month for 5X5 Now 15 months later my rate went up to $149/month! I called for a discount, the lowest they brought it to was $139/mo. I'm out.
