Any account of the Harbor View's history must begin with Edgartown, its legendary birthplace. Settled in 1671, this early colony steadily came to be known as a prime port for whaling. And as that enterprise grew, so too did Edgartown, in both prominence and influence. In fact, by mid-1800, this bustling municipality had become the Vineyard's wealthiest. But as the whaling industry began to ebb, Edgartown officials turned their attention to a new source of prosperity: tourism. With ambitions of building the finest resort o... read more

The Harbor View in Martha's Vineyard: Delightful From the moment of arrival at the Harbor View everything was perfect. The hotel was at once relaxing, elegant, comfy--The staff was truly welcoming and accommodating. The location, a short walk from town, was just close enough to everything in Edgartown, including the simple mass transit bus system, but also just far enough from the post high season slimming throngs. Not to be missed: sunrise-- snuggled up in a blanket with a cup of coffee on the big front porch.
Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown A lovely hotel in a lovely setting overlooking the Edgartown lighthouse. The plus or minus, depending on your view, is that the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from "downtown" Edgartown.
Just what we were looking for - a real Vineyard experience The staff was outstanding and always willing to be of assistance. The view from the front porch of the lighthouse and harbor is spectacular. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The only issue we had was a really uncomfortable roll-a-way bed we had for an extra person in the room. Other than that it was fabulous. Made our "sisters" trip so memorable!
Nice option We had never been to MV before and chose the Habor View because we got a great deal on Hotels.com. It turned out to be a nice hotel, very good service, and perfectly nice if slightly dated room. We went the last wknd of the season and they were definitely operating on a short staff, but did well all things considered. About an 8 minute walk to Main Street through a lovely neighborhood.
This is a beautiful hotel with spacious rooms and many amenities. The service staff was outstanding...very polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. The food was excellent and priced reasonably. I would recommend this hotel to all. Probably best on Martha's Vineyard!
Excellent Choice in Edgartown I loved the location of this resort. I have stayed at other properties that are so secluded from the surrounding area that you don't get to experience anything but the resort. This is a full service resort a few minutes walk from downtown Edgartown. Though the hotel restaurants were a bit pricey you do not feel compelled to dine on the property due to convenience. There are numerous restaurants, delis and casual eats within walking distance. I've stayed at other resorts such as the Wequasett Inn... read more
Really great Hotel We stayed for two nights at the Harbor View with a small child. The staff were so helpful and welcoming, offering to get a cot, help with luggage, all saying hi during the stay. Parking is easy, simple walk up the road to town, everything we hoped for, even a specula plate of chocolates delivered to the room as a birthday gift from the hotel
