Any account of the Harbor View's history must begin with Edgartown, its legendary birthplace. Settled in 1671, this early colony steadily came to be known as a prime port for whaling. And as that enterprise grew, so too did Edgartown, in both prominence and influence. In fact, by mid-1800, this bustling municipality had become the Vineyard's wealthiest. But as the whaling industry began to ebb, Edgartown officials turned their attention to a new source of prosperity: tourism. With ambitions of building the finest resort o... read more

Harbor View Hotel Overall, an excellent stay, despite the rainy weather. Comfortable, clean, beautiful view, exceeding our expectations. We found it humorous, however since we're celebrating our 45th anniversary, to find a crib in our room! Also a dirty drinking glass on the porch. i guess they were in a hurry and missed it- even though our room was ready early?! Now that I think of it, the bottle of $40 white wine we ordered at Henry's was unchilled and we were each served a half lobster roll instead of the whole we each or... read more
Great Long Weekend The hotel has a wonderful view and is situated in a great location for walking around Edgartown. I did mention in my oroginal request that this was a trip to celebrate my Husband's special birthday but the Hotekl did not recognize this at all. Some of the rooms and especially the bathrooms, could use some updating. Planning next year's trip now and will try one of the Hotel's other Houses.
Nice idea The hotel was in a great location and the property was well kept. However, the room was average compared to the picture. I called the front desk to specifically ask about the "pool view" and was told that it was lovely. When we arrived, the room was on the first floor and overlooked an empty pool. Construction workers woke us up the next morning as they worked on the pool and hung around most of the day which made it hard to enjoy the balcony area. In addition, neither the ac nor the frig seemed to work well. I'm s... read more
Harborview is Beautiful This hotel was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were right at the end of the off season so it was a bit quiet. Restaurants were fabulous. Great getaway for family or couples.
Outstanding This was my second trip to Martha's Vineyard, and staying at the Harbor View made it wonderful. The staff was excellent, accommodating me when my flight was cancelled and I had to change my reservation and putting us in a terrific room in the main building. The bed was extremely comfortable, the room was very clean, and we had a terrific view of the harbor. One of the side benefits is the easy walk to the lighthouse and the main area of Edgartown. Gorgeous place, gorgeous hotel, we loved it and will come back aga... read more
This was a very nice hotel. It was built back in the 1800's, but they have totally modernized it to be a good place to stay. The hotel was huge. It was very clean and had a great view from the front side of the hotel. We were a little disappointed that we ended up on the third floor as far back as you can go. We visited during the off season so I really don't think the hotel was filled with people. Breakfast was not included. The parking spaces were limited and we had to walk quite a way to get up to our room from where we p... read more
A perfect stay We were absolutely delighted with the proximity of this hotel to the restaurants and shops in Edgartown, and to rental bikes and the ferry to Chappaquiddick. The walk from hotel to town itself was very pretty (past captain's homes) and enjoyable in itself. The moon rise over the Edgartown headlight was gorgeous. Henry's Lounge was perfect for evening cocktails and dinner. Drinks on the front porch, too. We will stay here again!
