So disappointing! This hotel always was the best Edgartown had to offer. Not any more. Service was non-existent. Hospitality 101 should be revisited. At check-in time, no general information was offered about the hotel written or verbal, no information about the pool, dining, bike and car use. We did ask about beach accessibility and was provided with info and directions, but, if we did not ask, we would have no way of knowing. Front desk staff was friendly but the rest of the staff was very unfriendly. When we walked by them they didn’t say good morning. We stayed in the handicap accessible room and the room was un-finished. The cap was missing around the sprinkler and around the pipes in the bathroom. The sheets on our bed were dirty and duvet cover had a blood stain. In the restaurant the counter above the booth where we sat was filled with dust. We ordered over medium eggs and they well done and the bacon was burnt.

I was so looking forward to staying at the historic Harbor View Hotel to celebrate my retierment. Having come to Martha's Vineyard for years and always admirinng the external ambience of the hotel, my wife and I decided to extend our stay (we had already been on the island for a week with our family at a rented home) and spend 3 nights at the Harbor View Hotel. This property is uniquely situated in Edgartown overlooking the water. The lobby is very inviting and so are the restaurants. The grand porch with rocking chairs are a must do. I was initially placed in the Governors Building. The entire building was in disrepair and the common areas smelled. I asked for a pool view room with a King bed and received the pool view, did not receive a king bed. I told the manager on the first night and he noted that the room was supposed to have a king bed. They hire poorly trained young staff from Europe who are at times uncouth. One of the waitress staff were extremely rude.

Great location. But the buildings were well on their way to run down. Had an extremely disappointing dinner at the restaurant. Our waitress brought new meaning to the word disinterested. My son and I ordered the linguine with clam sauce for $33 a plate...four dried up clams and a little pile of noodles. Bread was elusive... no salads.. pretty bad.
