About this business

Any account of the Harbor View's history must begin with Edgartown, its legendary birthplace. Settled in 1671, this early colony steadily came to be known as a prime port for whaling. And as that enterprise grew, so too did Edgartown, in both prominence and influence. In fact, by mid-1800, this bustling municipality had become the Vineyard's wealthiest. But as the whaling industry began to ebb, Edgartown officials turned their attention to a new source of prosperity: tourism. With ambitions of building the finest resort o... read more

Beautiful location but clean up your act The staff was very helpful in getting my elderly parent a room on the first floor, but when we got to the room one of the beds looked as if it was not made fresh. There were no washcloths in the bathroom and no laundry bags for dirty clothes. We paid $384 for what I expected to be a very beautiful experience. Compared to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, MI it was not up to my expectations at all. The bathroom on the main floor by the restaurant was filthy. It really was disgusting.

Too High of a price for poor sleep and service The main dining room was closed because of an event. No complimentary breakfast was offered despite pricey room rates. We got a courtesy visit form the bell boy to leave our room but could not get anyone to help us in front of the hotel to help get us a taxi. But the worst part was our lost nite of sleep when the were forced to listen to a crying and restless infant in the adjoining room ALL NITE LONG!

Filthy and pricey. Don't book it! Pros: location Cons: clean it! While I appreciate a historic hotel I expect it to be clean. The carpets were filthy and the toilet didn't flush properly for 2 days. It was over $500 per night and I wouldn't stay there again for $40 per night.

Offseason woes Booked a double room.... For 3 adults....arrived to find only 2 coffee cups (not matching), two towels, no curtains in room for privacy, instead of moving us to a different room we had to wait for engineering to come hang them while we waited in the room?? It charges like a boutique hotel all year round...but runs like a hostel in the off season, zero attention to detail unfortunately

It wasn't what i expected I was so excited to stay at the Harbor View for the first time as it is such an icon of Martha's Vineyard. There must have been some sort of sports tournament for the weekend as the hotel was filled with pre teen/ teenagers who were roaming the halls the entire weekend in packs of 5-10 kids. I have no idea who was supposed to be supervising them. I am aware that they are kids and they are just trying to have fun but I was trying to enjoy my weekend. I called the front desk multiple times to complain... read more

Great hotel, poor experience We decided to upgrade to an ocean view room upon arrival. The room was excellent except for two issues. The heat would not turn off (even when turned off) even with multiple windows wide open the temp in the room was upwards of 75. Several attempts were made to fix it but failed. The 2nd issue was the coffee pot did not work. It was changed for us. There were no other ocean view rooms available so we declined a room change. We were offered a free breakfast for the inconvenience.
