Any account of the Harbor View's history must begin with Edgartown, its legendary birthplace. Settled in 1671, this early colony steadily came to be known as a prime port for whaling. And as that enterprise grew, so too did Edgartown, in both prominence and influence. In fact, by mid-1800, this bustling municipality had become the Vineyard's wealthiest. But as the whaling industry began to ebb, Edgartown officials turned their attention to a new source of prosperity: tourism. With ambitions of building the finest resort o... read more

Cold room Cold night temperature dropped to 60 degrees front desk said heater not working. That should not had happened there should be a backup plan for that. Not just let the customers stay in cold rooms overnight.
Not well maintained Pros: Beautiful view from the Light House Grill restaurant. Quiet environment. Room door does not lock. The guest next door accidently walked in. Good thing I was still clothed. Complained to the front desk but was still not fixed. The room was in a separate building. There is no clear sign to show directions.
Poor service follow up My son had a bloody nose around 4 in the afternoon. We put in two requests for a new bedspread. At 10pm we still had no luck getting it changed out for a clean one and my husband had to sleep in a bed covered in blood.
Hotel is falling apart - not what you expect when you pay $550/night
Hotel is tired and dirty Hotel was dirty in need of a refurbishment. It felt as though the communal areas were "back of house." Piles of dirty, worn carpets, damp smells. Clearly the hotel used to be something special, but it is not worth its current rating and the photo gallery certainly does not reflect the current condition. We had no hot water for 3 out of our 5 day stay.
One disappointment after another Checking in went well - the desk staff was excellent. Walking to our room, I thought we were being led through the "staff only" area. It was shockingly filthy and the floor was worn down to bare wood. This is the route we took each and every time we went to and from our room for 3 days. On our second day, we returned to the hotel to take showers and get ready for dinner. The housekeepers "forgot" to give us towels. This was at 5:30pm. I called and requested towels, so we could take our shower... read more
Difficult check in process Check in was not smooth. Front desk staff , although personable, mislead us by indicating they would work diligently to assure us an early check in as we were on property at 10:30 in the morning. They could not possibly have made any effort as our room was not even ready at 4 PM. When I checked with them at 2:30 PM they radioed the housekeeping staff and then told me it would be just a few minutes. By 4 PM our room was still not ready. They ended up upgrading us and giving us a different room. Whe... read more
I'm torn. The place is clearly mis-managed and disorganized. But everyone tried to solve the problem very much and the concierge was so extremely nice (thanks Darlene!). I'd come back, but regret all the disorganization and hours of waiting for our room.
Hotel is extremely worn down and not prepared. Pros: The view and location. Cons: Needs to be repaired. Location: Approx. 1/2 mile to town Unfortunately the hotel was extremely worn down. The linens were stained, the deck was splintered and in need of repair. The staff was excellent. The concierge was not prepared, did not have maps, etc
