Any account of the Harbor View's history must begin with Edgartown, its legendary birthplace. Settled in 1671, this early colony steadily came to be known as a prime port for whaling. And as that enterprise grew, so too did Edgartown, in both prominence and influence. In fact, by mid-1800, this bustling municipality had become the Vineyard's wealthiest. But as the whaling industry began to ebb, Edgartown officials turned their attention to a new source of prosperity: tourism. With ambitions of building the finest resort o... read more

Nice place to visit but stay somewhere else. Well I booked a Cottage for our anniversary weekend. The pictures on the web looked great. When we arrived we were told that A MONTH ago there was a problem with the cottage we booked and the "upgraded" us to a room in the main lodge. NOT an upgrade!!! We were given an old room with small double beds instead of the one large King. If the damage happened a month before our arrival, we should have been notified of it and been given the chance to cancel the reservation. I am sadly di... read more
Disappointed Arrived Friday cleaners made up room on Sunday this happened after I called to complain Found staff not accommodating on Saturday got to dining room at 10.34 refused breakfast told it ended at 10.30 Went to bar after dinner at 10 25 bar man told us he was closed we pointed out bar was supposed to stay open to 11pm he said he could close when he pleased .
Almost a grand slam The hotel and our visit was awesome with one exception. One of your bartenders was rude and abrupt in correcting us for breaking a rule around food and wine on the front porch. He could have been gracious since the rule was not known to us.
Old dusty rooms Our third stay at the hotel. Before we stayed in the main building and had a pleasant experience. This time we traveled with our two little kids and we're placed in the building next to the pool! I have to say this was the worst room we ever stayed in! Old, moldy, smelly and so so dusty!!! Our kids developed bad allergies after three nights there. Never ever again!
Nice, but there were problems Our 2 bedroom unit far exceeded expectations. That is, until we discovered that the hot water didn't work. That was fixed quickly. Then the water stopped running altogether in the middle of the night. Apparently, the pipe froze. We were moved to a one bedroom in another building. We were told this was actually an upgrade because this unit was recently renovated. Are you kidding? The unit was nice, but you could loudly hear everyone coming and going in the building. And the tv in the bedroom didn... read more
Terrible Service in Restauranf My family and I visited Martha's Vineyard over the Thanksgiving day weekend, and chose to stay at the Harbor View Hotel. The Hotel is well maintained and and the room was pretty comfortable and clean. We decided to visit the Lighthouse Grill for breakfast and out experience was simply horrifying. Let me start by saying that the restaurant wasn't crowded and there were plenty of vacant tables. Despite that it took the wait staff nearly 15 mins to bring us the menu. It was another 20-25 mins af... read more
Scenery the only thrill Location: We enjoyed the entire island! Was disappointed in the overall stay. When we reviewed this hotel from the website, we thought we were in for a cozy B & B style stay. However, upon arriving on an off season week, the room was in the back with no view from our porch and a stuffy room that was so tiny we had to climb over beds to get to the very out dated bathroom. When asked if they offer hot tea/coffee to their guests, they reply I got was a rude, "If you want to pay for it!" Lol. Grateful to ... read more
if you dont ask for a good room you get bad Pros: FAB surroundings, fab place EDGARTOWN Cons: The room allocation was not fair at all. Location: almost everything closed for the winter !! shame. I asked for harbour view, as there were many weddings going on we got put to the bottom of the list even though we stayed three nights and I asked repeatedly to change rooms, we had not in the main hotel but round the back with no view at all - hotel called Harbor view, all the way from the UK not good. There was no where to have cof... read more
Bait & Switch Room was ok but absolutely NOT what is shown in the picture on the site. only about 15% - 20% of the rooms are in the building shown in the photo and have a water view. The rest are in separate structures behind this building and have no view whatsoever. You have to walk outside and around to get to this main building where lobby, restaurant, etc. is located. Really felt misled by hotel posting.
