I used to go to Huffard all the time to board and groom my beagle. But when he died, I got a Labrador retriever puppy who was a stray. When I send her there for boarding, they claimed when I picked her up that she was constantly vomiting and forced me into buying medication for my lab. When I check her trazadone I gave them for her ptsd, I noticed that they never gave her her medication. Also, a worker there was giving an attitude to my dog for being too affectionate. I never took my lab back to Huffard.

My cat was experiencing a bout of cystitis of which she has had several times in the past. My vet was closed and Huffard was still open so I bring her in on an urgent visit. I had brought her there 5 years ago and didn't get a good vibe from the place but I thought I should give it a second try since they have better hours then my vet. The bloodwork bundle you received does include a urinalysis, to try and offset some of the cost, but does not include cystocentesis [obtaining the urine]. We went to Huffard Animal Hospital as our 14 year old shepherd had a UTI. The doctor felt her stomach and said our dog had a mass and needed to be put to sleep. Our dog is old. So we decided to trust her. She and her assistant came into the exam room and stuck needles in both legs. She said our shepherd had "tiny" veins and she couldn't get the death needle to go in. I can't even give this hospital 1 star right now. We have been using this hospital since 1998. We have trusted the doctors and staff to care for eight of our dogs, many who are no longer with us. We were told by the front desk that our request for a prescription refill for our black lab was denied by a doctor who told us never to hesitate to call for a refill. Way too expensive. I got a new puppy the same time 2 other friends did. My shots and visit were 4 times as expensive. My friends live in Arlington, VA and Takoma Park, MD

We were recommended this vet by some other Greyhound owners in the area after we moved from out of state. We evaluated the boarding and they seemed fairly decent and we liked the 24/7 tech presence. They do require a pre-boarding vet evaluation, which was fine, including a fecal sample. We went in and what was supposed to be $100 visit for our two dogs turned into $1,000 because of a laceration (obtained at home being treated with local wound care) they insisted should be stitched closed, as well as treatment for hookworm, t... read more

After dealing with my dog having an ear infection that would not go away for at least one year, I was finally told that there was nothing more they could do. I was so upset. I finally decided to go to another vet. After two doses of a medication that Huffard had never offered, my dog is now completely cured of this infection. Also, I was spending way too much money on procedures that are $100 - $200 less at this new vet. Wish I had made the switch sooner. No consideration for people seeking less expensive options for their pets. If you aren't willing to pay for everything they want you to they will not give your pet the right attention or care. If you can't spend $2000 to get your 16 year old dogs teeth cleaned (anesthesia costs apply), then they don't care if your dog has other problems, the visit is over when you say no to something they want you to put out more money for. It's all about the money - NOT your pet at this place. If you're dog is dying be sure you have plenty of cash on hand because that's the only way they'll do anything to help. I'm not talking about a few hundred dollars here - you need to have thousands UP FRONT or forget it. All they care about is their bottom line. I offered to put down a deposit and make payments - I'm talking two or three payments - not taking years to pay the bill - but there was ZERO willingness to work with me in any way in order to save my dog.
