I had a good experience but unfortunately will not be returning as I have learned they have a class action against them. First- my stylist said they offer people the ability to dry their own hair so they can get people in and out faster. My stylist was working on my hair and another women's hair. She said, after taking 15-20 minutes putting the color in my hair that she was going to leave it on for 30 minutes. I immediately said that was too long and she was going to fry my hair. I had heard great things about Madison Reed when it came to color and service. I was excited to get my hair done there for the first time and had scheduled a full foil highlight. The facility was clean, bright and you are welcomed as you enter. You have nice spots to place purses, water bottles, etc. at your seating area. Doing good so far. First visit at Madison Reed and the root touch up caused very bad itching which I don't experience at other salons. I went to Madison Reed because of claims of healthy non-paraben, non Ammona, etc.. The hair coloring also caused large pimple in my scalp and break out on side of temple. Its been a few days after and it looks like i have some hair breakage too. i decided to do research on this product and found there is a class action suit In NY. Do not go to this place! I had an appointment yesterday and it's the worst hair highlights job that was ever done to my hair! I got white/yellow large bleached sports and patches on the top of my head and left side. I can not believe it was done by a "licensed" professional! After paying $155+tips now I have to go to a normal salon to fix this horror! No wonder why the stylist did not give me a mirror to check the job on the back of my head yesterday. mediocre blowdry sadly, even though they now charge $45 for this (way too much), and when I paid a cash tip, they still charged me a tip on top of this on my card. thankfully I checked the receipt (emailed, not shown)--so they issued a refund, only after I called. be sure to check this to make sure you're not charged more. overall pretty disappointing experience

I had my first highlight and roots with Madison Reed yesterday but my hair came out frayed and damaged. I have been going to a regular hair salon for highlights and I have NEVER seen my hair fried and damaged to a point that the hair broke off. Unfortunately, I did not notice the damage until I got home. I was able to come up close to a mirror and saw a section of my hair in the front had broken off. Certain section of the damaged area was at least a foot long (extends down to my jaw) but now it's only 3-4 inches long.... read more

The day I came in here, the people who were working were not friendly and looked put out by my questions. When someone who is not in the business you're in with questions, it usually means they are trying to educate themselves in an effort to learn and have a 'moving forward' plan. Go somewhere else! The one in Hayes Valley in San Francisco is the best!
