I wrote a detailed review last year which was deleted. Rather than re-write all the details, I will just urge you to reconsider before taking your animal to this place. I am still grieving over the loss of my beloved cat of 12 years who Dr. Hensen pressured me to put down last year after doing only a very brief physical exam & virtually NO lab or diagnostic tests. I worked there for a short period of time... When Dr. Dave got frustrated and slammed a cat down on the table because it didn't stay still for him I walked out. He had a very short temper and managed his staff by intimidation.
This hospital does not care about exotics. Pet Owners Beware!! Allow me to tell you the whole story and why this hospitals might kill your pet.. I took my guinea pig Pixie to this hospital on April 28th for a checkup with Dr. Maggie Camilleri. Pixie has a history of upper respiratory infections. However, Pixie apparently passed with excellence. On May 15th Pixie started to display odd behavior; roughed up coat, suddenly not wanting to be petted and had a hunched posture. BEWARE....Choose another Vet! Re: Paumanok Veterinary Hospital, Patchouge, NY/Vet: Dr. Deirdre Henson This Vet, whom I took my beloved cat to, on 5/12/16, unnecessarily & prematurely euthanized him. I don't usually write post like this, but the experience that I had at Paumanok Veterinary with Dr. Dave Henson, was the worst I have experienced at any vet. I brought my dog in because he was losing weight and having trouble going to the bathroom. Our first visit, he did a physical evaluation and found that my dog's prostate was enlarged. To rule out cancer, he suggested getting a tissue sample and having a biopsy done and proceeding from there. Blood work and urine was collected. ****Beware of Dr. Dave Hensen**** Please read...client of 20 plus years! Do not take your pets here! I have been a client of this veterinary practice for 20 years. Dr. Dee usually saw my dogs when I first started going there. I was only a teenager at that time. In 1999 my dog Phillie, had a seizure. My mom and I rushed him to the vet. Our cat, Baby-Belle, died 3 years ago this week. I am glad to see that YELP is finally beginning to post some honest reviews of this veterinarian. Yelp never posted mine. If you love your pet(s) do not step foot into this place. My wife and I started bringing our cat and dog here mostly because of the proximity to where we live and they seemed to do a good job. Boy were we mistaken. Our cat is elderly and overweight. Because of her being over weight it is difficult for her to cleaner backside so we started bringing her hear to get groomed and cleaned up a bit every 8 weeks or so.
