I don’t know if it was because of Covid but it was very hard to get a hold of someone when I needed to. And I kept bringing up an issue and it took a while before it was taken care of. I would also get phone calls while I was at work after requesting to not get phone calls while I was at work. All in all things went well it just took a lot longer than I had expected. Along the way I felt like I was getting different information from different people.
Partial communication breakdown on multiple delays on getting the appraisal published led to a ton of extra work and stress for me in calming down the seller. This could have been avoided. Also, the discounts that were promised (for delayed closing and the loyalty discount) were only addressed after my repeatedly and insistently asking about them.
The process was quick and painless to refinance the house and the customer service was excellent.
Tracy and I never spoke over the phone and she never returned an email. I initiated contact for all of my questions and most of thebPennyMac team members I was lucky enough to reach were extremely helpful. In rating the previous answers, I was unsure if I was rating Tracy or service in general. I was disappointed at the lack of communication throughout the process but grateful I was met with very helpful agents most times I called.
Process smooth, very little interaction required, closing agent was great
Service on the phone was first-rate. At times in between, communication left a lot to be desired. After locking in a rate, I continued to get calls asking if I would like to apply. One of the first docs I submitted was requested again even though, as the loan officer later confirmed, it was in his inbox. Twice, promised check-in calls never came. And after my scheduled closing time, when I called to report the notary didn’t show, I was informed the cash to close had changed due to an oversight.

The refi process went well. We did a streamline no cash out VA refi. Everything was adequately explained from beginning to end. I felt that my closing costs were a bit high but decided to move forward with the refi anyway because other lenders were unable to match the interest rate I got with pennymac. Anytime I had questions I'd call or email and I'd hear back promptly from someone.
