Welcome to Pet Samaritan Clinic Pet Samaritan Clinic was established in the early 1900’s to care for the horses that pulled the trolleys from the Willamette River into the Portland residential area. Nearly 100 years later, the clinic remains in its original location on East Burnside in Portland, Oregon. Our little red brick building has welcomed many, many pets into its open door. We are always accepting new patients. At Pet Samaritan Clinic, it’s all about the animals. Since 1982, our skilled and compassionate staff has pr... read more

Have you ever left the Vet feeling ripped off? Well its not a great feeling. I brought my very healthy Boston Terrier in because he ripped a nail. He does this all the time and I like the Vet to clean it up nice for him so it can heal. Its happened plenty of times, its no big deal. Well Pet Samaritan charged me 126$ to clean his nail? How can you justify this?Well they said its 55$ for the exam? I said what exam? You mean when the Vet looked in his ear and his mouth and said hes a very nice looking and healthy dog. 55$ for... read more
I'm sure this place is probably great with dogs and cats, but I would NEVER TAKE A BIRD HERE again. I can't anyway because now he is DEAD. I had a budgie with a lice problem and I was given Ivermectin to treat it. Pretty standard. I used to be a tech myself so I am pretty familiar with these kinds of things. He clearly had an overdose the day after I administered his second dose. He could not stand and was completely out of it. I brought him in immediately for emergency medical attention. They put him on oxygen and gave him... read more
I brought my dog in for a heart worm check. I suggested putting a muzzle on her just in case. The previous time she snapped at the tech who took a rectal temperature. He was a bit rough with that. She isn't an aggressive dog, but if she isn't calmed before poking and prodding, she will get upset. So, the muzzle was extremely tight, like it was meant for a Pomeranian instead of a 70 pound dog. A 2nd tech joined in to restrain my dog against the ground to take a blood sample from her hind leg. In the process, the dog sq... read more
Reading some of the other reviews makes me wonder if we just got unlucky when we would take our animals here. We went here for a year, and went quite a few times with our new kitties and sick rat. Every time we went we waited for SO LONG. When we made an appointment here, I made sure to have at least three hours free for it. While everyone was nice, nobody seemed to care that we sat there for so long, hours sometimes. I wouldn't mind waiting, except that it is stressful for my animals. I have been to lots of vets and never h... read more
Spent $98 to diagnose and test my ferret who was lethargic and had a swollen abdomen. She said he was old - WRONG!. She performed some inconclusive tests and then gave up. She never told me prices in advance. It turned out to be just a food allergy. I changed his food and he recovered immediately. This seems like a pretty simple possibility to me. Many of these posts seem to be written by employees. If you value your pet and your money, stay away from these buffoons!
Very Unprofessional. My experiences are as follows. Pet Samararitan canceled an appointment as they were getting their floors redone. I rescheduled. Day of second appointment, the clinic calls and says vet is sick and I need to reschedule for the following week but they will offer me a credit for half off because of previous 2 cancelations. Third week, I come in and have to wait over an hour to see the vet and yes they do not honor the credit even when reminded and agreed to upon entering the clinic that day. To top... read more
The quality of care is decent but this place is way overpriced. I purchased health care plans for both my kitties at $200 a pop. The plan gives you discounts on tests and procedures, office visits, x-rays, and some free annual vaccinations. I should have checked the regular prices first because they are all at least double what you would expect to pay. The quoted me almost $800 to have my older cat's teeth cleaned; $400 with the plan. I've been a pet owner for most of my life and I know for a fact that this procedure ge... read more
I first went to Pet Samaritan in 1993 and they have helped me with three pets with generally good experiences. What a disappointed on my return visit. I was expecting to see old friends and instead I was treated by a hostile front desk person who seemed less than interested in either my pet or my business. As I have spoken to others, I understand that this is not unusual. It pains me to say that a business I have trusted so much in the past is now both over priced and out of touch. Dr. Erickson may be great, but the rest- fr... read more
THE WORST EXPERIENCE. This was a few years ago, although I doubt things have changed. My 7-year-old kitty was diagnosed as diabetic. Can't remember the tech's name but he was a short little dude with glasses with a smarmy personality who gave me a lecture on my first visit about how if I touched my cat during care (I was just petting her, and NO I was not trying to "handle" her during procedures) and was injured they would get sued, etc. The vet who saw her the first time was a pretty nice guy (I think it was Voorhees...h... read more
