Welcome to Pet Samaritan Clinic Pet Samaritan Clinic was established in the early 1900’s to care for the horses that pulled the trolleys from the Willamette River into the Portland residential area. Nearly 100 years later, the clinic remains in its original location on East Burnside in Portland, Oregon. Our little red brick building has welcomed many, many pets into its open door. We are always accepting new patients. At Pet Samaritan Clinic, it’s all about the animals. Since 1982, our skilled and compassionate staff has pr... read more

Unless you like being treated with disdain, do yourself and your pet(s) a favor and avoid this place. I came here for a second opinion because my cats need very expensive dental procedures and I wanted to know if the first estimate I got was accurate. When there were signs of fleas on both cats, and I couldn't remember the kind of flea treatment I was giving them, Dr. Mulshine not-so-subtly implied that I wasn't telling the truth about giving it to them consistently (I was), then doubted that I got it from my vet (I had), th... read more
We recently had a really unfortunate experience at this clinic, which is especially frustrating because its reminiscent of the other negative reviews that I ignored when I chose to go here for our pup's care. We took our 4-mo old lab in on Sat (9/15) after we saw some weird urine (it looked like mucus was in her pee). In anticipation of needing some labs I brought a urine sample with us to the appointment. The vet did a general physical exam, took a vaginal swab, and said she wanted to "visually inspect the gross characte... read more
Was a patient here for over a year, and getting my cat's prescription food through them. Mediocre care, but close to my home so it was convenient. I had bought into their in-house insurance plan, and at no point was told that I had to renew before it's expiration in order to get the renewal process, which was enough of a price difference to make it significant. So you can imagine my surprise when I was informed of this after it had already expired a few months ago. I also was not informed that I had to have him checked up ev... read more
This clinic may provide good service, but it is very expensive - known for that. Possibly the most expensive pet clinic on the east side. I took my cats there for awhile years ago and had to switch to another vet due to Pet Sam's high fees. My new vet was very affordable with great quality care. Sadly, he has now retired so I've begun to look for a new vet to replace him. I thought I'd give Pet Sam a second chance thinking they may have improved their costs in the years I was away. But no, still very expensive. My cat... read more
I wasn't impressed. I felt I didn't get my questions answered by the vet and the visit was very brief. On the search for a holistic vet who had time to give extra care to my pets. On the positive side, the location is convenient and the assistant was great. After reading the condescending clinic comments on other reviews I am lowering my rating. Of course people are still upset months after their pets have died. I felt the responses were so callous. I am looking for a new vet.
REVIEW UPDATE-- I took Monster to his old vet in Seattle, where they suggested removing the growth and not the entire TOE before knowing what the growth was exactly. They were also surprised that any other veterinarian would suggest such a thing. Especially since the toe is one of his most weight bearing. They removed the growth and did a beautiful job and as it turns out the mass was NOT cancerous. Has I gone with pet samaritans coaching my sweet English bulldog would be without and entirely useful toe! Not only would I ha... read more
They've gone through some changes the last few years and I finally had to leave after many years. Mistakes happen, but they forgot to tell me I was due for my cats annual a couple months after the fact. I've been going there for years, so I have no problem with making the appt. What finally made me decide to leave was refusing to fill my cats medicine and refusing to give me her blood results (from appts I had prior to them Discovering their oversight) until I got in for the annual. I made the appt promptly after them catch... read more
I have a number of experiences with them. there is very different care from different vets. I have had very good experiences but the reason for the one star was from my last experience. my dog was very sick. I was doing all I could for her. she needed a feeding tube but vet insisted on x-rays to look for cancer first... $800. not needed but I had no choice. the dog was sensitive to anesthesia. finally a feeding tube. I asked for a large bore tube but they only had a smaller tube that wouldn't alloy me to give her food. we ... read more
My dog was having some scary symptoms that worried me enough to find a local vet since my usual vet was booked for the next week. So I chose this place based off ratings and locations. $56 later I was told he needed two teeth pulled and a mouth cleaning ( because I was told his teeth were really bad) then sent me a quote of over $1800, yes you heard me right. $1800 for a 14lbs dog to have teeth cleaned and two teeth pulled as they seemed to be the issue. Ruled out anything else or trying antibiotics or any medication. Just... read more
