Welcome to Pet Samaritan Clinic Pet Samaritan Clinic was established in the early 1900’s to care for the horses that pulled the trolleys from the Willamette River into the Portland residential area. Nearly 100 years later, the clinic remains in its original location on East Burnside in Portland, Oregon. Our little red brick building has welcomed many, many pets into its open door. We are always accepting new patients. At Pet Samaritan Clinic, it’s all about the animals. Since 1982, our skilled and compassionate staff has pr... read more

I used to come here regularly for my cats checkups, but after I moved and split with my partner I couldn't afford to come here anymore. They were always great for checkups and used to have a few sweet receptionists working there who I always really liked. I called them one day in tears because my cat had been battling thyroid cancer-my ex took her to the vet, gave me a prescription for her and I just followed dosing instructions. I was made aware that even with surgery or radiation it was unlikely she would live through tr... read more
Avoid this place, terrible service and 2-4x the cost of other near by vets. Been going here for years and had previously had good care and at slightly above average prices. In the last 12 months It's been one terrible experience after another. Last time their computers were down so they couldn't lookup anything, fill prescriptions, or process payments. This time I waited 45 mins after the exam to get a prescription. I finally asked the front desk to just write out the prescription so I can get it filled at another pharmacy... read more
I haven't been in in a few months, but I've been thinking about my last few experiences here, so here goes. First of all, I feel like my pup has always had reasonably good vet care here. A little expensive, but good. But the front desk staff...oy. Most recently: We've been monitoring my senior dog for awhile, who has renal issues but just made the transition over to a prescription diet recently. I had had a few e-mail conversations about it, and at one point I realized that the person (vet? tech? receptionist? not sure) I wa... read more
Our last visit to the clinic was the final straw. We took our dog because she was coughing and at the time their system was not working, so they could not check the records. The vet said she would review the records when the system is back up. Weeks to more than a month passed and nothing; no call. No follow up to see how our dog is doing. That is NOT customer service. In previous visits, we got the feeling that the staff that works there, including the vets, do not have a sense of care for their patients. We've had extreme... read more
My pets have been with Pet Samaritan for almost 20 years, but it is now time to find a new clinic. The compassionate veterinarians and staff who used to be the hallmark of the Pet Samaritan have all left. Their replacements are awful -- recent interactions with the staff have been unpleasant, and treatment from the vets has been sub-par (and in my opinion, may have compromised the health of my pet). In addition, the up-selling of unnecessary testing and procedures is questionable behavior in an already very expensive clinic.... read more
WARNING!!! This clinic overcharges for every service they provide and triple charges for medications. They don't treat your loving pets or yourself with any compassion even when the diagnosis is grim. My dog had an inoperable tumor even though there is nothing that can be done the vet suggested to have a biopsy and initial cultures taken which would run 170$ note: that more cultures may be needed and that would cost more. If something is inoperable why even bother ordering test it puts the dog in pain and what ever is found ... read more
On the 27 of August I had the Worst visited ever never in my life while having my pets have I ever been so disrespected. The Vet Kennedy was so rude to us told us that our cat was really sick by only touching her and looking at her after I told her I had to go and we were going to look for other resources because I couldn't afford the x-rays that were $300 she decided to call the humane society and make up lies my gf told her she was going to go to work she got really upset and started telling us that our cat was going to ... read more
I'm fairly new to Portland and hadn't established a vet for my two cats yet. I thought this could be the perfect place as it was walking distance from my apartment. I brought my older cat here just for a check up. They were running behind schedule so I had to wait an extra 20 minutes past my appointment time. Not a huge deal - I wasn't in a rush that day and I know emergencies come up. When I did see the doctor, it was someone different than who I'd scheduled with. She told me the doctor I was going to see what still in su... read more
The people here were sweet.. I brought my 1 year old kitten in in hopes of getting a teeth cleaning. They said he had to have some teeth removed for his gums to be healthy. They told me that thislevel of gingivitis was going to lead to my kitty loosing all of his teeth if they didn't act quick. They told me it mostly occurs in male orange cats. They could remove all the back teeth leaving the front. And that he would be fine after the surgery. After getting a second opinion I found he was so young and in the early stages of ... read more
