Polaris G52 Back-up Valve Assembly. This is a factory original Polaris replacement back up valve. It has a timer mechanism inside that diverts water out of a jet every 5-10 minutes. This jet acts as a back up, pulling the cleaner out from the pool floor or wall. There is an arrow on one side of the hose barb that should face towards the cleaner. Works perfectly Perfect. My backup device died years ago and I just replaced it with a swivel, as the cost from the pool store was pretty exorbitant. But it I did find the sweep would occasionally get stuck, and this device is what's needed to keep this from happening. I installed it and it works perfectly.

Good deal but before you buy, check on just replacing the broken parts Good price -- 1/2 what the local stores usually want for it. All the right parts in all the right places. This valve breaks way too often so recommend saving the parts from each so you can piece together replacements in future. Unfortunately, its the collar that breaks 75% of the time so this only works a little bit... but you can sometimes find the collar alone for $5 or $6. You can extend the life if you push a float right up against the back of the val... read more

Repair yourself / Pool stores will rip you off! Inherited polaris 280 with the purchase of my home/pool, didn't work that well so pool guy took it to the shop and rebuilt ($400) and it still didn't work that great in my opinion but what do i know - pretty new to having a pool. a year later bought this thing and now the Polaris works better then ever, little did i know these things fail / malfunction regularly, wish i did research before getting ripped off by pool peeps.

I had adjusted just about everything else when I read the back up valve can fill with water after several years. all looked fine, so I ran some water through the paddle ... Delivered timely, new (in packaging), however when installed it did not function. I Googled "Polaris G52 problems" and came across a couple of DIY pool maintenance forums...figured I would take it apart to see if there was an obvious issue. Upon opening the housing, all looked fine, so I ran some water through the paddle mechanism to see if it was functioning properly....sure enough, it did not turn at all.
