Portobello Place has been fantastic with the care of my Nan. She might not be the easiest resident but have been fantastic with her, and continue to help her through rehab and activities. My Nan enjoys the company of the other residents and continues to tell me how amazing the food is. Even through COVID, we were able to safely meet up with her outside, which has been lovely. My mother spent a very comfortable four weeks residing at Portobello Place for some respite prior to an operation. Her initial worries and concerns soon dissipated after meeting all the kind, caring and concerned staff from the lovely ladies who cleaned her room through to the professional and discreet carers and the genuinely interested managers. My father in law came to Portobello Place from hospital where he was recovering from a broken pelvis. He was quite confused and anxious in hospital, but was much better at Portobello Place and settled well. He said himself that the carers looked after him really well and he had no complaints about the carers at all. I think for a relative that is the most important thing to hear. Mum and Dad came from their own home for 3 weeks of respite care. Portobello Place were able to accommodate them at very short notice due to the original respite care home being unable to have them. The care and attention they received was excellent and they soon settled into the routine. The staff really seemed to care about my parents and nothing seemed too much to ask. Mum was living in a retirement flat on the South Coast when Covid-19 hit, so she was isolated and became very inactive, without a formal routine to follow. Early in 2021 she suffered 2 strokes and a number of falls. We chose to move her closer to family members in May 2021, and after considerable research decided upon Portobello Place. My mum was recently a resident of Portobello Place, it was a difficult time for her, myself and my family following her diagnosis, however, the team at Portobello Place are truly outstanding! They cared so well for my mum and made her feel so comfortable and happy in her last few months. They also made the family and friends feel so welcome and comfortable during our visits there. Knowing my mum was so well cared for and looked after brings me so much comfort and I will always be grateful to the team for that.
My mother came to Portobello Place on respite after an unexpected fall. Their professional response to our urgent request for respite was exceptional, and she was treated with great kindness at a difficult time. For 6 months she has been cared for with thoughtfulness and affection and has now decided to make her stay permanent as she is so happy! Mum went into hospital due to having a fall, she suffers with dementia and we can no longer give her the care she requires, it is a very anxious time for the family. I can not thank Portobello staff enough for the care and kindness they have shown towards her and the family, mum does not hear very well therefore a telephone call is not an option.
