Huge improvement over older models The new PT-D400 is a huge improvement over my older PT-1880 for a number of reasons. The PT-D400 comes with an AC adapter or can accept 6x AA batteries (alkaline OR NiMH rechargeables). My old PT-1880 could run on NiMH, but it would always look very dim and wouldn't work right on the lower voltage of the NiMH batteries. Quite expensive to simply make labels I'm a bit dismayed at all the glowing reviews from Vine recipients who don't even mention the high $90 price tag. I have to wonder if some reviewers who get products for free loose track of the thought that these are products that most people are paying cold, hard cash for. $90? Just AWESOME! This labeler is GREAT! I have had multiple Brother products, and I'm always exceedingly impressed. This one is no exception! It only comes with a little starter tape, but that's okay, I think that's standard. You can do SO MUCH with it, I still haven't explored all its variations! Perfect I love labels. Therefore, I love label makers. I think this one makes 8. This is a huge step forward I love that this has an AC adapter. That works way better for me than batteries. It's good but mine is squeaky! This is a good label maker with lots of fancy features. I also have a Brother PT-1280, which is quite a bit smaller and lighter. The advantage with the bigger model is that it can print labels up to 18mm wide, whereas the smaller P-touch can only print 12mm. Unless you need to print really big labels, I would stick with the smaller, cheaper model. For general household use, I find the 12mm labels are just fine - the 18mm is too big for me. Brother labelers really do the job! I have a much simpler, smaller Brother labeler - theBrother Personal Labeler Machine, White (PT90)- that I've had for a couple of years. It works great. But it definitely doesn't have all the bells and whistles this PTD400AD labeler has. This label maker comes with an AC power adapter or it can run off of six AA batteries. Versatile Highly Featured Label Maker I bought a predecessor model back in January 2008 and it is still working great. So I am already quite familiar with the general features of this newer model.
