Used once and doesn't work anymore. I used it for labeling spices when I first bought it. It stayed on my bookshelf for 3 years. Tried to use it and its keyboard doesn't work. Only some letters will print and various buttons are unresponsive. Don't understand how something that is not used would become useless.
Prints well, but literally wastes half the labels Pros: This is a pretty good printer. Has a bunch of fonts and styles. Major Cons: It wastes sooooooo much tape. It will print about an inch or more at the beginning of the label. Make sure you have a pair of scissors handy, because you have to use them every time to cut off the excess. Horrible design, unless it's just a ploy to sell more label tape. Another source of wasting tape is the display is not WYSIWYG. Until you get used to it, you will reprint many labels to get it ... read more
Complicated This machine is loaded with options. It is complicated to learn. It will do EVERYTHING but the buyer will need a few extra hours to learn the program.
Doe Not Work With Power Adapter This machine comes with a power adapter but it does not work with it. I've been using it for a couple of months on batteries so I did not realize this until today. When I plug it in with the supplied power adapter it stops working. I don't know it the adapter is bad or if this piece of crap shipped with the wrong adapter. I'm screwed with Amazon because it's past the return period. And Brother will not help me at all. They just keep referring me to the help article that says try a new outlet. ... read more
Limited capacity. PTD400 iis limited to 80 characters. 2 line label will max out at 40 characters per line. Message shows "Text full". Wanted a lable for my Ethernet jack panel to ID locations for each jack. Strip us 6 inches long, covers co nections to 7 rooms. What a piece of junk!
Worked one time beautifully…then failed miserably Worked beautifully the first time I used it. Beautiful labels and font. Was so happy with it. The second time it gave me errors and won’t print. Tells me the tape width limit is reached and I can only have two lines when I have the largest tape that accepts 5 lines and I’ve printed hundreds of labels successfully the first time I used it with three lines. I’ve looked all over the internet, worked with people to fix it and it’s clearly a lemon so I’m contacting brother to get ... read more
Buyer Beware!! I am at fault for not reading description and reviews more carefully, however . . . This item IS NOT RETURNABLE (no excuse for this Amazon!!). It is NOT easy to operate as described. The picture of the device with the AC adapter is misleading as it IS NOT rechargeable (as is my DYMO). Brother tapes are expensive and apparently wasteful per other reviews. Again - my fault for not being more careful - but still very disappointing!!
The instructions are not easy to understand. I like it for the convenience of using batteries or an AC Adapter. I like the size of the keys. For my purposes, it was too much. I could have used a simpler label maker. There are options I will never use. I waited too late to return.
Not what I expected, in a bad way I was looking for (needed) a simple labeling machine that was intuitive with no frills. I should've kept looking. My biggest complaint is the Margin Setting, which basically disables the ability to print a ready-to-use label that doesn't require trimming the excess (wasted) tape on the leading edge with scissors (so the print is centered) before pealing and applying the label. WHY??? Lesson learned. Read reviews AND user-manuals BEFORE purchasing.
