Way overrated. I can't help but feel that all the very high ratings of this place come from individuals who don't live in big cities with regular access to fine dining. The portions were huge and the fine quality ingredients just weren't there. I've had better mushroom risotto on Hilton Head at seafood restaurants.
Great place for vacation dining
We have dined at Ela's several times a year for many years when we visit Hilton Head. The view of the harbor is very nice. The food is very good. Unfortunately, the most recent visit left us wondering if we will return. We made a reservation on Open Table before we left Florida. Our experience was very good and we enjoyed everything about our visit. We plan on making this a regular visit whenever we are in Hilton Head.
If you can, sit outside and take in the atmosphere of the marina. Good food and a good atmosphere are what Ela's is about.
Overall, a nice dinner experience. Hostess said all outdoor seating was taken.... yet several tables sat empty the entire time we were there and when we left. She was rather snooty. The rest of the experience was very good.
Took friends from out of time, had a great view of Broad Creek, Great Waiter, and all four meals were delishious.
Interesting menu; more creative seafood choices than most other restaurants on island. We shared the delicious beef carpaccio appetizer. I had the ahi tuna tartar followed by the pear arugula salad, both were very good - nice blends of tastes in both. My partner had the soft-shell crab special which was fantastic. Have been to Ela's many times and will continue to go back. Always a great dining experience. As far as Open Table; however, we made and were confirmed a reservation for 4. When we arrived, Ela's had a reservation for only 2. Due to that mistake, we were unable to get an outside table that we had requested. Not sure how this happened, but apparently it does from time-to-time. We had brought friends with us that had never dined there before, so we were disappointed.
