Reviews were all great but our experience was mediocre. My brother's swordfish was not cooked through and my sister had the same thing and said it had no flavor. I had the butternut squash ravioli- no better than the refrigerated ones you buy in any grocery store. My mother did enjoy her lobster tacos. Service was slow. Our server seemed to be the only one in the place.
We had been to this restaurant about 18 months ago and found it very good. This time the service was extremely slow - not leisurely but slow. Bread came after the appetizers and salad. Had to sent my soup back to the kitchen twice to get it to be warm. It was tepid at best. Was really disappointed.
We were seated immediately but didn't see or be acknowledged by anyone. Waited 10 minutes before our waiter appeared to take our drink order. The martinis were great even if the olive garnish was incorrect. The bread was ok but the hush puppies were cold and rubbery. The oyster Rockefeller appetizer spinach needed to be chopped better. The staff at this restaurant was beyond sub par. Overpriced and not worth the money.
Wasted opportunity! The service was horrible, but that can vary from server to server. The food portions were very small...for example, the "fish & chips" was 2 bites of fish (no exaggeration) and about a dozen shoestring fries. The soups and salads are a decent portion, however. We left hungry and literally went straight to another restaurant (the Crazy Crab), where the portions were a more typical size & we could finally be full. We have eaten at Ela's several times but this was the last. It was my wife's birthday and I made that known when I made the reservation. Now we had an early reservation (5:30) and upon arriving the hostess was not overly friendly and asked if we would be could be done with our dinner within an hour. We chose Ela's for our 30th wedding anniversary. Typically if a restaurant is informed of a special occasion they bring some champagne or a nice dessert. They didn't recognize this anniversary at all despite the fact that we put it on our reservation. For the first 10 minutes we had no waitress , no water or menus, We were disappointed
Ate there for the first time. Many better choices in Hilton Head. Scallops and stuffed flounder were both over cooked, over priced and undersized. Calamari was the only highlight. Service was good overall.
Noise level unacceptable for a romantic dinner inside. Felt rushed to leave when this was a special dinner evening with my fiance.
