I have been a member at the EDGE in meriden since day 1 and have probably been in that more times more than anyone. There are a few things that are very aggravating. Of course if the EDGE had a direct correspondence button on their beautiful website, I would not have to air my complaints here. First let me say this .It is a beautiful facility with nice equipment. This place is clean, and has a lot of equipment but I do not trust their financial company that they use, there have been many cases where people have been essentially scammed out of money, at one point they told me i owed 800 dollars on a second account that had been opened that I did not know about, how is this possible? I got it cleared up, but only because i made noise about it until it got solved. I joined this gym in October 2015, first off the girl who was signing me up was absolutely clueless. I work for a company that gets a discount for this gym and when I stated that she looked at me as if I had 8 heads, she walked away went to go ask someone, came back and still didn't give me the proper discount. The Edge seems to be mainly concerned about getting as much money from you as they can. Right after you sign up, they schedule you for a "finess assessment". What this REALLY is is an attempt to sell you on a personal trainer for around $300 per month IN ADDITION to your regular monthly fees. I was told I could cancel the membership at any time. So I go to cancel and am referred to a billing number. They inform me that the only way to cancel is (1) move out of the area (more than 15 miles) I think and provide proof or (2) yo... read more

I'm a current member and regret it. The gym looks cool with its movie theater, astro turf and work out rooms but don't be fooled. The staff here is hit or miss on friendliness and helping out. If you mention personal work out sessions though its a different story. They are quick to sign u up. This place looks big but again you're fooled. During peak hours which are at all times you have classes going on. So those rooms become off limits to get away from the crowdness of the gym. The movie room is a nice place to workout. There is a variety of equipment, which keeps me from getting bored w/ my routine. Yet, I'm absolutely infuriated w/ the staff. The person who handled my membership lied to me about my contract. He informed me that I could drop my membership anytime I wanted since I live more than 50 miles away. Ugh....I learned the hard way to always read the fine print. According to other Yelpers, Edge Fitness (all chains) tends to make that lie a lot. First off, the gyms parking lot was overcrowded every time I went, even during non peak hours. Also the potholes never got repaired. The gym was very clean and big and also bright. For me it was a hike to go every time and when I got just looking at the parking lot made me not want to work out. I signed up in January and paid my first month. Been a member for a short time. The equipment is well kept and modern, plus it has a very open and bright atmosphere. Staff is friendly and it has many classes to offer. The only problem (which is a big one) is the noise level from the speakers and movie area. It is extremely distracting, and the base is turned up so high it literally makes the floor vibrate. I spent over an hour trying to cancel my membership. They insisted on charging me the annual fee, even though I was not going to be a member. Very difficult process. 5 months later I'm still being charged. I have been at many gyms, be careful with this place
