Went to Vida on a Wednesday evening. Bar was packed, restaurant very busy. Definitely a beautiful restaurant in an "interesting" location. Parking is a bit problematic; they have valet, but if you don't want to do that, the lot in the back is tiny, and street parking is available but read the signs carefully because one side of the street may be permit-only, etc. Got there early and waited in the bar for the rest of my party. Small portion sizes for the price.
Menu is really out there. Each person will only find a couple of items that they will be interested in which makes the menu feel limited. Prices are creeping up as this place becomes more known. The food we had was good but this is the first time we started feeling they are pricing themselves out of the norm of their competition. We will go again, but may move it from one or our go to restaurants to a once in a while restaurant.
Food is always great at Vida. It has a nice atmosphere and the noise level is just right. ... The last time we were there, however, we were disappointed. We were looking forward to a relaxing evening to take our time and just talk together. We began by ordering a bottle of wine and our favorite appetizer, the Charcuterie platter. the dinner was AMAZING. It took me (not kidding) 30min to get a drink when I 1st sat down and I sat at the bar. I had to ask for my drink twice, no apologies. the food was unbelievably good but I don't think I would go again and sit at the bar.
We had a reservation on Friday night and we were seated over 35 minutes late. There was no attempt to assist, nor any apology of any kind. The reservation was set in advance. With the price and type of place I would have expected them to be accomadating for the error. However, the food was good. We were disappointed in the experience.
This was the second time we've eaten at VIDA. The architecture is stunning, and the service (albeit a bit pretentious) very good. The first time we ate there, the food was extremely good; this time, it was more mediocre. The presentation was very good, and the food was certainly acceptable, but it wasn't commensurate with the price. (When I'm paying those prices, I expect exceptional food, and ours was certainly not exceptional.)
We were disappointed that our waiter balked when we requested champagne flutes for the bottle of champagne we ordered. We actually had to "convince" him to bring them. He informed us that the owner was considering doing away with the flutes entirely because he thinks one cannot experience the full bouquet of champagne by not getting one's nose into a wider glass. Nice night out with friends. The hostess and managers were very pretentious. Our server was fantastic and tried to help us feel more welcome. The food was good and all enjoyed. The wine list was very pricey!! I have seen the same bottles on other lists in town for much lower. Probably won't go back as the overall cost at $100/ person is a bit too much.
