Tonight we went to see Manchester by the Sea, an amazing film. 15 minutes before we were allowed to take our seats, we ordered wine at the bar. There were 2 women sitting beside us at the bar that were clearly buzzed and being really loud. Unfortunately when we found our seats, they reserved the seats beside us. First time going, will never be back and wish I could take back the visit all together. This is an establishment that serves food at the movies. Much like the esteemed Alamo Drafthouse, where I thoroughly enjoy my cinematic experience, so why not check out this place? And now I know that this place just does not get it. At all. The staff is rude, the drinks are over priced, but the films are sometimes worth seeing because they're not showing anywhere else. I don't understand how this place is still in business though. The last time I bought tix in person, the staffer literally rolled her eyes while I decided which seats to select.

Sadly I had a really bad experience with you. I went to watch Swiss Army Man, which it was showing on theater 1. And it didn't have AC. We asked if it was running, and the lady said "I'm sorry but the AC broke down on that Theater". We didn't stay because we couldn't handle the heat, I wish they have offer us a refund or change us to another movie with AC on it. But they didn't do anything about it. You know how some places LOOK good but they're just not good? Violet Crown Cinema falls into this category. The good: Beautiful decor The bad: Movie seats are horrendously uncomfortable Lines for the bathroom (Alamo and MovieHouse never do) Parking is weird. We paid $10 for parking before finding out there was a garage behind the cinema. The ugly: The captioning devices/glasses SUCK The food looks pretty, but is pretty bad. I love movies. Every week, I see something new so I've gotten familiar with a lot of theaters in Austin. I was super excited about Violet Crown Cinema, so it was a huge let down to have such a bad experience. First off, if you like servers who ignore you then this your place. The website told me to come early to place an order to bring it into the theater. I got there an hour early and wasn't able to even to get an order in. I am so frustrated that Violet Crown sells itself as an alternative to Alamo Drafthouse, and yet they say nothing and do nothing about people talking during the movie. There's a mild admonition at the end of the previews to "report a disturbance" but that doesn't convey to people "DO NOT TALK." I just came from "Carol," a movie where the sound is a big part of the experience, and two old people behind me talked through the whole movie (they can't whisper), which ruined it for me. I've had some great experiences at this place, which is why I give it two stars instead of one. However the last several times I've been there were awful. There were people talking all around us, I couldn't even concentrate on the movie. Before every movie Violet Crown shows an announcement stating "Disturbance? Notify a manager." So that's exactly what I did. The Violet Crown employee walked in to our theater and just stood there for 20 seconds and walked back out. Normally this place is great. But be aware, the "complimentary validated parking" is only valid for 4 hours. So if you try to do dinner, movie, drinks like we did, you will get reamed with a $15 flat rate when you leave the parking garage. And they won't tell you about the 4 hour rule until you're leaving.
