My refinance experience with Better Mortgage started out good. I started with a 2.8% interest rate. The communication with them slowly started to fade away and I immediately sensed something was wrong. They continued to send me task after task and then I began to ask questions. I am in the process of closing with them right now. They keep asking for same things over and over again. They have asked for my paystub like multiple times and I have provided them. Poor communication from them. They are just delaying my mortgage and now I am so close to the closing date that I don't have any other option. Please find a brick and mortar bank for your mortgage.

Closed August 2020 The process was very easy to research, quote, and obtain a mortgage loan. I loved the ability to select the points/rate I wanted and see how my monthly payments would change. With that said, they do underestimate the escrow payments in order to show a lower monthly payment than other providers. I had a shortage in my first year because Better claimed to not have prior information on my home's property taxes. Horrible experience with their underwriters. If you're a self employed borrower look elsewhere. Don't waste you're time with their company. They wouldn't consider my partners income in our debt to income ratio calculations, completely undermining what should have been a simple process on an incredible off market deal. I'm sure we'll find a lender that isn't completely incompetent but they wasted a month of my life uploading paperwork just to tell us they couldn't help us with the loan they pre approved. I made a huge mistake going with Better instead of a traditional broker. A traditional broker would have closed in 2 months with much less work, instead I spent enormous amounts of time with this company and after 7 months they were still going around and around on me. Closings were constantly scheduled then cancelled. And I have a solid W-2 and assets so this would have been a no brainer at any other broker. Better.com took my application and asked to provide more than over 75 financial document for the loan. For the over last 10 days I submitted everthing but they declined my loan. They should have taken my application and process it if I was well qualified or not. I have a stable income, 2 rental properties, stock, 401k, 1 paid off house was not enough for them to approve the loan. They just wasted my time and need to correct their application process. I will even rate them 1 star.

My closing was on 2/16. All of my funds were present via wire on 2/15/21 (although I did receive a concerning email that my wire was "not able to be located" on 3/11 which was corrected later that morning that the funds were located). The title company did not follow-up to make sure their wire correctly paid off my loan my original bank. I did not find this out until I received a letter saying I missed my March payment (which my closing expert told me not to pay given we closed on 2/16 and payment was late on 3/15).
