We were out visiting my children from Pennsylvania. My son-in-law said you had a great breakfast, so we decided to try it out. We sat for quite a while before our waitress showed up. She was very pleasant and took our order. The food came out very quickly. It was very good, and a lot of it. Now is when it all turned bad. Our waitress never came back to check on us. Shenequa my waitress was great. Food was good. Atmosphere was very 1960's but I get it and liked it. Unfortunately there were two problems. #1 was 'diner silverware'. I have almost never been to a diner with clean silverware. Your diner is no exception but that does not excuse it. #2 was that there were two place settings at the booth where I was seated. One napkin had either ketchup or barbecue sauce on it and it was supposed to be clean. That is a problem too.
First - the service was great. The wait staff was busy but still very friendly and efficient. All smiles. They get 5 stars. The food however was soooo bad that I am sitting here writing about it. I ordered pancakes and eggs. The pancakes must have been setting aside and then reheated for me. They were hard and crunchy and dry as crackers. Make sure silverware is clean, waitresses know to bring creamers when they bring the coffee. Make sure cooks know how to make eggs over medium and not raw, and hash browns should not be almost burnt. The restuarant was not very busy so “ busy” is not an excuse. This is not a problem at other black bear diners I have visited. Oakland deserves better!!!

Best restaurant , great food staff is friendly don't have to wait long 5 star .
The staff was great & the restaurant / restroom were clean but my breakfast wasn't so good. I ordered biscuits & gravy. I was pleased when the plate was set I front of me. It had a huge pile of biscuits & gravy. The first bite was flavorless. I added salt. Still flavorless. The biscuits were dry and also flavorless. I forced a few more bites down but couldn't finish it. I left hungry...

The hostess completely ignored us waiting to be seated. The restaurant was not busy she finished with the customer at the register then went and talked to a male customer at his table. We waited for almost 10 minutes and a server came and seated us. While waiting the cook had long hair no net on just a beanie. Another cook came in through the door long dreadlocks no hair net his pants hanging below his backside his under wear hanging out and him holding up the front with his left hand. I CAME IN TO ENJOY LUNCH(BREAKFAST) WITH MY FAMILY, ON MY LUNCH TIME(WHICH IS A SPECIAL TREAT FOR ME). THE RECEIPT SAID THE ORDER WAS ENTERED AT 11:59, BUT THAT WAS INCORRECT, I WAS WATCHING THE TIME SINCE I ONLY HAVE 1HR FOR LUNCH. LONG STORY SHORT, IT TOOK ABOUT 20 MINS FOR MY ORDER TO BE TAKEN, THEN MY MEAL CAME ABOUT 30 MINS AFTER THAT.
