This was our first time at this Black Bear Diner. Our first experience was the location in Emeryville a few years and the food was delicious. This time unfortunately was hired. The Cesar salad was more like a house salad with carrots and tomatoes, but with wilted lettuce. My daughter had a broccoli cheddar soap and a turkey sandwich. The soup was thin and tasteless and the sandwich, for some unknown reason had only turkey and stale bread. The worst service ever! Waitress never came to check on us! Our food was cold! And we waited for over 45 mins for it! Restaurant wasn't even busy... worst black bear I've ever encountered

For the second visit in a row i received slow service, hot food served cold and long delay getting the the order through the kitchen to our table. Waiter messed up order, brought wrong plates. I ordered waffle, initially got pankakes, cold scrambled eggs. It took 45 Minutes to get my order. This location has some serious problems in the kitchen and the wait staff. The Manager apologized and comped the meal. Nice gesture, but I wnt a drama free breakfast. I'll go elsewhere...It is what it is.

Black bear diner is probably best if you stick to breakfast. I can't give more than 2 stars having picked up lunch and dinner multiple times. Slow service, low quality food for take-out- besides the PIE! Pick up a pie. Dine in. Have some pancakes, waffles or French toast. The last time I went was for a club sandwich and green salad to-go. The club sandwich gave me a laugh, I'll give it that. This place has gone down hill. Stopped here a couple time before and it was great. They changed the menu, the "hash browns" are sad little strips of potato with a light char on the outside and barely warm on the interior. If you fancy poached eggs, just don't here. They came out practically still clucking. They swore up and down that they buttered the toast, but I think they just waived them in the vague direction of that particular condiment. OK, now for the third time, it was impossible to order from their web page. I can get to the site, look at the menu, make my choices and go to check out. So far so good, right? WRONG! As soon as I enter all my info, it says it's unable to process the order. I closed it out and tried again. Same thing. Then...again...I called to place the order over the phone. I was torn about giving this place a poor review and sat on it for a bit. We were there in early March for my 12 year old's birthday brunch. The front of house employee was so rude it still sticks in my mind. There was a wait, and I was next to put my name on the list.
