Would give this no stars if I can. Drove 25 minutes to eat at my favorite restaurant. Walked in and there were about 15 customers. Not that busy for a Saturday night. We were told, "be right with you" and and stood there for about 5 minutes. Got seated and about 5 minutes later we ordered. The people were nice, but it does not make up for the service. I guess, I should have taken notice when they said, "We have to wait for the kitchen to be ready." They came to get our drinks. Lipstick on the cup of coffee. Asked for straws and it took forever. Food was terrible and it was cold. Utensils were not given to us, there was four of us to eat with 2 sets of utensils. Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday. We were seated and given menus then ignored for a full 20 minutes with none of the staff checking on us or taking food or drink orders. I was ready to walk out when someone finally took our food and drink orders. I ordered the turkey dinner and my companion ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs over easy. My husband and I go to different Black Bear restaurants never once had a problem until today In San Rafael. We were seated outside because we requested it. The waitress sat us said if we wanted to use the umbrella we can open it. Do I work here? Lupita never came back to serve us. Another waitress did. Revised: it took 3 years for me to come back to this location because the variety of the restaurants in the area is limited. Based on my last experience 3 years ago I was apprehensive, but very pleasantly surprised by the much improved food taste and quality of the ingredients. I had eggs Benedict and my boyfriend had a beef stew. Sooo yummy! The wait staff is amazingly friendly and quick. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. It took the staff 30 minutes to get our order and another out till our food was finally ready. When they served us our food they still hadn't given us utensils. They tried to give us the used utensils off the table next to ours but we asked them to wash them. After we finally got our utensils the food was cold and not super appetizing.

Service was awful didn't get my food for 1 hour when I got my food they still didn't give us utensils. The food itself was good but I know It would have been better warm.

The food is disgusting! I have ordered delivery twice from this shit hole and they can't even get a simple order of Eggs Benedict correct. The eggs are overcooked and hard and there is no hollandaise sauce. The hash browns are soggy and so is the english muffin. I also ordered dessert and they screwed that up as well. The brownie was rubbery and frozen, no hot fudge or whipped cream either. I called the restaurant to complain and the manager is a dumb fuck!

We usually love this place. No complaints about the food. However, the service tonight was terrible. We received a gruff greeting at the door. We were then led to a table where our menus were literally thrown on the table. Then the greeter did a quick turn and walked away. Not even any eye contact.
