Service was very slow, Server was inattentive, and when taking the orders was not knowledgeable of the menu. Took over 30 minutes till he checked in with us for our drinks, countless awkward pauses. Hostess was very nice and helpful, but Server also dropped the check off with the food. Even though we were considering dessert, but was put off when that had happened.

Came in at 8:30 am. Regular Sunday customer or was. Party of 3 requested a booth rather than table. Past experience at tables has been bad. Been bumped into by customers, wait staff, bus people, etc. we were told we had to wait even though no one else was waiting. Two parties that came in after us were seated AT A BOOTH ahead of us. Totally unacceptable as restaurant was not that busy.

This is my 3rd visit to Black Bear Diner, and I am very disappointed because each visit has resulted in a negative experience. We've made return visits in hopes of improvement, but that hasn't been the case. During our first visit for breakfast, my eggs had to be returned to the kitchen because they were runny and undercooked. During our 2nd visit for lunch, I ordered the turkey pesto sandwich which came with no tomato or lettuce. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Our server Karen took our order & then we didn’t see her again until she came to bring our bill (just as we got our food - which someone else brought) & tell us she was going on break & Martha was taking over. Then we never saw Martha again. She walked by our table over and over to tend to her tables. We tried to flag her down but she would turn her head. We love black bear diner in Avondale Az and we were excited we got one in our home town of Santa Maria Ca. We’ve been to the one in Santa Maria twice. Both times it has taken over an hour to get our food. The servers have been great but are constantly having to apologize for the long wait. The couple next to us got up and left saying they couldn’t wait any longer for their food.

My experience was not the best as the location got my order wrong and did not provide silverware for a to-go/ online order. I purchased a pie and asked for a substitution on one of the meals. I did not discover the mistake until I was out of the city so did not call but I regret not checking and giving the staff a tip. Hello, My family and I dined at the Black Bear Diner location in Santa Maria on 2/3/2018 at about 7:00pm. We had a fairly large party, about 15 people, when we arrived at 6:15pm. I understand that it takes time to wait for tables to be cleared and set for a large party. We were seated around 7pm. Everything seemed to be fine and our server, Adriana, was pleasant. Had to wait 5 minutes for hostess at the door- there was a twosome in front of us also waiting. Waiter was too chatty- don't need to hear his life story and then switched to a woman who was obviously a trainee. I ordered chicken fried steak and eggs over medium with hash browns and biscuit and gravy and coffee. Chicken fried steak was very good! Good texture and flavor. We ate there last night and had horrible service. The waitress was never around after deleiverinf our food. She forgot items we had ordered and we had to ask multiple people to bring them to us. We then proceeded to wait thirty minutes to get our check which never came. Every table in the section was waiting for the server to come back and she never did.
