Its tough to think two Black Bear Dinners can be so different, one operating at peak efficiency while the other is lagging. Totally get it, in real estate "location is everything" meaning the building you leased in Santa Maria has a legend about being "jinxed" or "haunted". Every dinner goes out of business relatively quickly, after the cold "Hot Turkey" platter with dehydrated Winter Veggies in the Winter Veggie growing region of the United States I see this Black Bear Dinner struggling like the polar bears of the Arctic ... read more

When this first opened the food was good, the service was questionable, however I understand new business, and breaking in the help. We finally found a great waitress (EMA), very good service was always attenative, and was always checking on us to make sure we were happy. Over the last month or so, every trip had issues,. My normal order is Pot roast, or checking fried steak. Was usually good, Ema apparently changed here work hours so no longer there for dinner, last several trips there was always an issue. First My wife an... read more

Let me start by saying, I have been to many BBD's and have always enjoyed them, until this morning. I ordered a California Omelette which was the worst food I have ever had at one of your diners. There wasn't much besides eggs to it, very little cheese, a few mushrooms and three very small slices of avocado. It was barely luke warm. I was facing the kitchen and saw the plate sitting with a biscuit for at least 15 minutes before it was served (I believe this was due to the omelette not being done sooner) and the biscuit was s... read more

My wife and I stopped at the Black Bear in Santa Maria. We sat at the counter as we were only having a cup of coffee and were going to share a bear claw. We sat there for longer than 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged we were there. When a waitress finally did come we asked for coffee and a bear claw but she said they were out of bear claws. Tell me it isn't so, a Black Bear Diner without bear claws???

My Wife and I have been to many Black Bear Diner locations, and have always had great service and food. We have been to the newly opened Santa Maria BB diner when it first opened a few months ago and had great service and food like we remembered, even being very crowded with a long wait time! We were eager to eat there last night, we were greeted and given a table after a few minutes, was not busy at all with as many servers as there were customers. When we sat down we waited for over 5 minutes for a server to come by and ... read more

I got sick with diarrhea I had eggs, sausage, pancakes, and my stomach felt like a rock, and didn’t eat the remainder of the day and felt very tired after the the meal for the entire day.

My wife has to eat gluten free because of a sever allergy. When we first entered, we asked for a gluten free menu, which you do not have. We were told that you could make changes to the menus items to accommodate her. After spending quite a while looking at the menu and tying to order something that she could eat, we realized that she was not going to enjoy her meal. We informed the waitress that we would try to come back to try the breakfasts and we were leaving. She informed us that I must pay for the drink and that she ha... read more

It seems perhaps better management should be addressed. We have very much enjoyed BB Diners over the years especially up and down Hwy 99 and wereextremely excited to learn one was being built on our town. Have been there at least 5 times hoping it will get better, but it just gets worse. Here is an example of our last visit: pancakes were raw, no one refilled our coffee, never saw waitress to tell her about pancakes, eventually I stopped a busboy walking past table to get my waitress. We did not pay for that meal. Other earl... read more
