School got out yesterday for Winter recess and I barely made it to the finish line. I had spent my last nerve. Driving up the grade to get to Black Bear, I got stuck in traffic from a terrible roll over but the guy lived. Miracles do happen. My surviving this week was a miracle too. My good Mormon buddy took me out for a pre birthday celebration at the new Black Bear. She's a widow and retired teacher. I've got five more months before my teaching parole. I mean retirement. Amanda told us it was prime rib. It was about $30. M... read more

3-stars is being kind. The staff are nice but seem overwhelmed. The food is mediocre at best. I've tried it twice and won't be back. First time I got a bowl of chili and a side salad. Everything tasted fine but the chili was cold and it took so long to get seated and place an order that I wasn't going to send it back. Today I sat at the counter to avoid the long line to be seated. It took ages for anyone to acknowledge me. My coffee came quickly but with no stirrer or utensils. I kept trying to make eye contact with someone.... read more

Standard black bear diner-- decent food. Service was slow, but the server compensated it with her jolly ways. Can't go wrong with this place as it had entrees that met everyone's needs.

The spouse and I had never been to a Black Bear Diner, so we paid a visit to the recently opened location in Yucca Valley. They took over the previously vacant Sizzler location on Highway 62. They did an excellent job of remodeling the interior space, creating a friendly, open space. We were quickly seated; it was early afternoon on a Saturday and the restaurant was maybe a third full. The wait staff was attentive, and we quickly had our drinks while we perused the lengthy menu. I ordered the mountainous turkey club, while m... read more

This place is one of my favorite restaurants. I was so excited to get one in town. Don't let the bad reviews steer you away. This franchise goes way back. Being honest my food wasn't THAT great but everyone is new and trying to learn the menu. The service these guys are providing aready is top notch. Feels very homely and comfortable. Give this place a shot yourself before the reviews change your mind.. all of the other locations are spot on!!! YV Black Bear will get there :)

Food is great and the portion is so satisfying! The kids bear pancakes are so cute that even I want one! The waitress is friendly and everyone in the diner seems to be having a good time. It seems they are short on staff, though. We got here on Sunday morning for brunch, there were six parties waiting ahead of us while there were at least five empty tables in the back. I guess this place is just too popular!
